Ammonia Gas Leak: Sindri (Dhanbad)-Hindustan Fertilizer and Chemistry Limited (Hurl) plant of Sindri caused fear among people due to leakage of ammonia gas at around 8 am on Wednesday morning. According to the flow of air, ammonia gas leaks in the north-west direction within a radius of about five kilometers. People complained of irritation in the eyes and difficulty in breathing. Many people, including Chamber of Commerce President Deepak Kumar Deepu, senior Congress leader Mahendra Pandey, reported the gas leak to the Hurl Management and the district administration. On the information, Baliapur Zonal Officer Praveen Kumar Singh informed the senior officials of the district administration about the case.
Shutdown is in the plant from April 15 for maintenance
Hurl HR head Vikrant Kumar said that a two -week shutdown has been taken in Hurl from April 15. Right now the plant is completely closed. It may be that ammonia gas, which was left in the pipe due to the plant maintenance, has spread in the air. Hurl’s business unit head Gautam Maji said that Herl’s technical cell has examined the leakage of ammonia gas. When the plant remains on, there is a possibility of gas leakage and excess gas flare burns in the air. But the plant on maintenance is closed since April 15, so there is a possibility that some pockets of the pipeline have ammonia gas and from there it has spread to the atmosphere with air.
Control found on leakage
Gautam Maji told that due to the closure of the plant, there would have been a leakage of ammonia gas in small amounts from the pocket. Over time, it has now been controlled. As soon as the information was received, the Hurl management had deployed two vehicles of the precautionary fire service in the plant area, but they refused to consider it as a leakage of gas and told that there is no need to worry about it.
