Former Kerala deputy speaker Hamsa Kunju passes away

KOCHI: Former deputy speaker of Kerala meeting and Kochi mayor Kattissery Muhammed Hamsa Kunju handed away following a cardiac arrest right here on Thursday round 9.30 pm. He was 81.

Hamsa Kunju, who started his political profession with the Indian Union Muslim League, was elected to the seventh Kerala meeting from Mattanchery constituency in 1982. He was elected because the deputy speaker in the identical 12 months. 

Earlier, he grew to become the Mayor of Kochi in 1973. He was the senior councillor within the Kochi company council in 2015. He gained below the LDF banner from Thrikkanarvattom, because the senior-most member of the council. He was additionally a member of KTDC and GCDA.

Though he began his political profession with IUML, he had supported different political events akin to CPM, Congress, DIC (Ok) and Nationalist Congress Party. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolences on the demise of the senior politician. The Chief Minister recalled Hamsa bringing a number of employees’ points earlier than the meeting.
