Heavy rains in Kerala, IMD points Orange alert in a number of districts

KOCHI: Heavy rains continued to lash Kerala with some areas receiving round 10 cms of rainfall within the final 24 hours, because the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange alert for Sunday in 9 districts of the state.

The weatherman on Sunday afternoon issued Orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts.

All different districts have been issued a Yellow alert.

The IMD has additionally warned the fishermen towards venturing into the ocean until August 30.
