Jean-Luc Godard created his personal path in cinema: Adoor Gopalakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 13: Internationally famend filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan stated that French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard modified the grammar of filmmaking and created his personal path in making movies.

He was reacting to the passing away of the Franco-Swiss filmmaker on Tuesday, September 13, on the age of 91.

Adoor stated Godard’s mental talents have been seen in his first film ‘Breathless’. He questioned the standard mode of filmmaking and created his personal path. He has used a singular model of the character immediately talking to the viewers. The acclaimed filmmaker stated Godard had even developed a brand new methodology to make digital films.

National Award-winning editor and creative director of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), Bina Paul, instructed IANS “The Intellectual commitment of Godard was exemplary and he was fully devoted to movies. His movies themselves are a treat to watch and have revolutionised filmmaking.”

Last 12 months, Godard was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award on the twenty fifth version of the IFFK. He had participated within the ceremony just about as he was unable to journey because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was Adoor who had accepted the award on his behalf.

‘Godard Pala Yathrakal’ (Many Journeys of Godard), a e-book on the filmmaker by the critic G.P. Ramachandran, printed by the State Chalachitra Academy, was additionally launched on the opening ceremony of the pageant.

Shyamaprasad, a National Award-winning director, stated “This is a great loss to world cinema. It was Godard who changed filmmaking. He has inspired several Hollywood filmmakers to make realistic movies and revolutionised international filmmaking. It is indeed a great loss.”

Jean-Luc Godard entered the movie trade after a stint as a critic and writing screenplays for films. ‘Breathless’ was his first film and ‘A Woman is a Woman’ his first color film.

His films broke the established conventions of French cinema and commenced on a brand new model of filmmaking. He was extra forthright and his offbeat method to intercourse was noteworthy.

In his later years, films such ‘Goodbye to Language’ (2014) and ‘Image Book” (2018) have been extra experimental in nature.
