Two killed, 25 injured as tree falls on devotees throughout Thrissur Pooram fest

THRISSUR: Two individuals have been killed and 25 others sustained accidents because the department of an enormous banyan tree fell over the devotees and percussion artists in the course of the Madathil Varavu procession held as a part of Thrissur Pooram at round midnight on Friday.

Thiruvambadi Devaswom Pooram organising committee member Ramesh and Paniyath Radhakrishnan of Poonkunnam met with tragic finish because the department fell on their head whereas the percussion efficiency led by Kongadu Madhu was in progress. Around 7 individuals who sustained critical accidents have been shifted to Thrissur Medical College Hospital, 28 others have been admitted to district hospital. 

Meanwhile, each Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu devaswoms determined to cancel the grand fireworks show. The crackers stuffed for the show have been destroyed within the wee hours of Saturday. Both devaswoms will conduct Pakalpooram parading one elephant every on Saturday.

The Madathil Varavu procession is a part of the Pooram rituals of Thiruvambadi Devaswom.

Overall 40 folks, together with the organising committee members, percussion artists have been rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service personnel with the assistance of police and devotees. There was a delay in rescuing the injured because the falling tree had snapped energy traces.

Nobody observed the falling tree because the percussion ensemble was in progress. Many folks, together with the well-known percussion artist Kongad Madhu, bought trapped below the department. .

The elephant Kuttankulangara Arjun, which was paraded for the perform, ran amok because the tree fell simply in entrance of the tusker. It was introduced below management later.
