Damoh. Three girls died by drowning in a pond near Doomar village in Nohta police station area on Sunday afternoon. Another girl also died while trying to save these girls. Thus four girls died in the incident. All these girls had gone to attend a feast organised nearby.

According to Nohta police station in-charge Arvind Singh Lodhi, due to lack of rain, Gakkar Bharta Bhandara was being organized in Kher Mata temple, about one km away from village Doomar, in which the girls of the village went to participate in the afternoon. Among those girls, 9-year-old Maya, 12-year-old Rajeshwari, Princey were returning home after eating at Doomar Bhandara.

Meanwhile, Maya started bathing in a pond near the village and started drowning. The girls with her shouted for help. Rajeshwari and Princy jumped into the pond to save her. Seeing her drowning, the girls shouted and on hearing her voice two young men working nearby jumped into the pond and 9-year-old Maya was taken out.

During this time two other girls also drowned. Some labourers present nearby entered the pond and took out two girls. The family took the three girls to the district hospital in a private vehicle, where the doctor declared them dead.
Deceased Rajeshwari’s elder sister Ragini was not found in the house and people suspected that the girl might have panicked and ran away from home suddenly fearing the scolding of her parents. After searching, the body of the fourth girl was also found in the pond late at night.
