Naiduniya Representative, Bhind: Permission has been received from the Forest Department and Chambal Sanctuary to build a cable-supported bridge on the Chambal River connecting Madhya Pradesh to Etawah in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sea Bridge. The work of building the bridge will begin in the last week of October.

The bridge on the Chambal river between Barhi-Udi was built in 1975. Being a 49-year-old bridge, the bridge has been damaged several times in the last five years. Two years ago, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had sanctioned Rs 296 crore for building a four-lane road from the Yamuna river bridge to the Chambal river and a new bridge on the Chambal river.

The work of building the bridge has been given to Delhi based ASC Infratech Limited. When the company started soil testing for the construction of the bridge, the Gharial Sanctuary stopped it. After getting permission from the Forest Department and Chambal Sanctuary on 31st July, the company has accelerated its preparations.

According to National Highway Section Executive Engineer Mukesh Thakur, the wire support bridge on Chambal river is to be built on the lines of Bandra-Worli Sealing in Mumbai. The bridge will have four lanes for commuting. Its width will be around 14 meters, while its length will be 594 meters. The height of the bridge is 130 meters. There will be lighting arrangements on Chambal. The main span of this bridge will be made of cable. In which concrete, steel, precast segments are used.

Permission has been received from the Environment Ministry to build a new bridge on the lines of Bandra-Worli sealing at a cost of Rs 130 crore on Chambal bridge. Work will start from next month.
