Navdunia representative, Sagar. On Sunday, people of the area were shocked to see the footprints of a leopard and its cub in a farmer’s field near Mashanjhiri in Ambedkar Ward. The local people informed the forest department officials about this, after which many footprints were found around the field. They confirmed the presence of a leopard and advised the people around to be cautious so that no untoward incident occurs.
According to the information, on Sunday, Rakesh Patel, a farmer of the Mashanjhiri valley of the Municipal Corporation area, was working in his field. During this time, he saw that where he had sown, there were footprints of a large animal which were symbolizing a species larger than a cat.
Seeing these marks, he became worried and kept searching around for a long time. He found paw marks in many places. When he informed Guddan Singh Thakur, a snake catcher living nearby, he told him that these appeared to be the marks of a leopard or a lion.
There were also signs of return
After receiving the information, Forest Department employee Deepak Mishra said that on the instructions of the area’s ranger, I have come here and inspected the spot. Initially, these are the footprints of a large animal of the cat species. Here, near Mashanjhiri, in Arjani and Ameth areas, a leopard roams with its cub, on which we keep an eye.
It is clear from the footprints that these could be the paw marks of a leopard and it has a baby with it. Many paw marks of these two are visible in this field, but it has not gone towards the settlement but has returned to the forest.
The farm is near the Prime Minister’s residence
Rakesh Patel’s farm is just a few steps away from the Prime Minister’s residence in Mashanjhiri area, behind which is Ameth and Arjani. Forest worker Mr. Mishra said that this animal came here and then traces of it returning to the forest have also been found. Information of two to three leopards is received in Arjani and Rajaua area. It has not gone towards the Prime Minister’s residence and the colony, but we have informed the people living nearby to be alert and to carry wood and rods at night and if they see a leopard, they should also burst crackers.
The area will be covered, no violent incident occurred
Forest worker Mr. Mishra said that after seeing this leopard, we keep the area covered and also inform the people around. There are frequent reports of leopards roaming around near Arjani, Ameth and Hafsili. We have also put up posters many times so that people remain alert at night. So far, there has been no complaint of this animal harming any human or domestic animal in the area. For now, we will keep an eye on this area by covering it.
