State Bureau, Naiduniya, Bhopal. It is said that there is no age for learning. For a doctor, continuous learning is necessary. Now, those doctors who are not updated about the new changes happening in the medical world, new technologies, new medicines and new techniques of surgery, their registration will not be renewed in Madhya Pradesh Medical Council.
If this happens they will not be able to practice. For this, doctors will have to earn at least six credit hours every year by attending various workshops for two to three days. It will be mandatory to complete 30 credit hours every five years. Madhya Pradesh Medical Council is preparing to implement such a system. For this, guidelines from the National Medical Commission (NMC) are awaited.
Let us tell you, NMC has asked all the states to implement such a system so that the quality of medical care is maintained, but the guidelines have not been issued by the Commission yet. At present, doctors do not require renewal after registration, but after the new system comes into effect, renewal will have to be done every five years. There are about 56 thousand doctors registered in Madhya Pradesh Medical Council, but among them, about 25 thousand including government and private. Just practicing. Many doctors are not interested in attending workshops.
It mostly consists of doctors posted in primary and community health centers of government hospitals. Usually workshops are held in big cities, hence they are not visited. Apart from this, doctors who have retired from government service are also not interested in attending seminars or workshops.
This causes direct harm to the patients because some of the treating doctors do not understand properly about new diseases, new techniques of investigation and treatment. However, some of these doctors try to keep themselves updated through online research papers etc.
This is how you get credit hours
According to the current system of Madhya Pradesh Medical Council, one credit hour is available in a three-hour workshop. A one-day workshop lasts six to eight hours. Thus, to get six credit hours in a year, you will have to attend one or different workshops for two to three days. The council awards credit hours after evaluating the workshop.
This will be the benefit: Doctors will be able to know about the causes, methods of investigation and treatment, protocols of new infectious diseases. – Researchers also give information about the research being done in higher educational institutions by presenting their papers in workshops. There is an opportunity to become familiar with the research.
-The doctor students and their subordinates attending the workshop will also get an opportunity to learn from him. -By renewing registration every five years, the exact number of doctors in the state will be known.
