MP High Court: Order to install CCTV cameras everywhere in police stations of Madhya Pradesh

Naiduniya Representative, Jabalpur(MP High Court). The single bench of Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia of Madhya Pradesh High Court has passed an important order to install CCTV cameras with audio facility in every room of all the police stations of the state. The High Court made it clear that CCTV cameras should be installed in every room and every place inside the police stations within a period of three months from the date of the order.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Director General of Police to also obtain compliance reports from all the Superintendents of Police in the state that no room or place within the police stations located in their district is without a black spot i.e. CCTV camera.
If there is a mistake, contempt action will be taken
The High Court has warned that in case of any lapse in this matter, action will be taken against the Superintendent of Police of the concerned district and the SHO of the concerned police station for contempt of court.
The High Court has expressed displeasure with this instruction in a scathing comment, saying that it is worrying that the instructions given earlier to the Superintendent of Police of Gwalior were not properly followed. Therefore, the compliance report from every Superintendent of Police should be received by him within a period of one month from today and thereafter, every place including every room located in the concerned police station should be provided with CCTV camera coverage area within a period of two months thereafter. Be brought in.
The High Court has directed the Director General of Police to submit his report by February 18, 2025 regarding the installation of CCTV cameras at every place in all the police stations of Madhya Pradesh state. If the report is not submitted, the Registrar General of this Court will submit a report in this regard. Along with this, a separate case will be registered for contempt of court.

The petition on which the High Court has passed this order was filed by Akhilesh Pandey, resident of Anuppur. On behalf of the petitioner it was said that he is the manager of a company. The police of Bhalumada police station of Anuppur were demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 from him. For not paying the amount, a fake crime was registered and he was arrested. There was a fight in the police station. A police personnel himself tore his uniform and blamed the petitioner.
After watching the CCTV footage obtained under the Right to Information Act, the whole story became clear to the High Court. Taking this seriously, a fine of Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand was imposed on the accused police personnel. The petitioner will get this amount. Not only this, strict orders were also given to transfer the entire staff including the TI deployed on the day of the incident to a distance of 900 kilometers.
