44 per cent households get faucet water in Odisha: Union Minister

BHUBANESWAR: More than 44 per cent (laptop) rural households in Odisha have been offered faucet water connections within the final two and a half years and the variety of connections has gone up by virtually 10 instances. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel stated the State has round 88.33 lakh rural households of which 38.76 lakh homes have faucet water connections until March 10.

The Centre is implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), in partnership with states to make provision of faucet water provide to each rural family throughout all districts within the nation by 2024.“The performance of Odisha under Jal Shakti Mission (JSM) is better than Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand as 20 pc and 19 pc households have been provided with tap water connection in the two states respectively,” he stated. Odisha has utilised Rs 954.49 crore between 2019-20 and 2021-22 out of Rs 1,672.64 crore, together with Rs 1,661.71 crore of Central share, out there with the State authorities.

The State has deliberate to offer faucet water connections to 22.53 lakh households in 2022-23 and 18.87 lakh in 2023-24. Earlier this 12 months, the Centre had launched Rs 830.85 crore to the State to offer faucet water provide to rural households beneath JJM. The Central allocation has been elevated four-fold to assist Odisha in its endeavour to offer faucet water to each family by 2024.
