5 kidnapped fishermen rescued by Aryapalli Marine Police, allege torture

BERHAMPUR: Aryapalli Marine Police in Ganjam district rescued 5 native fishermen on Saturday, who have been allegedly kidnapped by their Andhra Pradesh counterparts on Friday. Sources stated 19 fishermen of Aryapalli entered the ocean on two boats for fishing on Friday round night and had a confrontation with a trawler from AP mid-sea, 5 kilometres from the shore. Since the AP trawler was discovered fishing violating the Odisha Marine Fishing Act (OMFA), the Aryapali fishermen objected and that led to a heated argument between the 2 events.
