Cyber fraudsters dupe Odisha physician of Rs 77 lakh

CUTTACK: A city-based physician has been duped over Rs 77 lakh from his financial institution accounts by cyber fraudsters, police mentioned.

An individual known as the physician over the telephone and instructed him to supply his financial institution particulars, together with the CVV variety of his ATM card on the pretext to activate his ATM card which have been blocked, the police mentioned.

The state Crime department police have began investigation into the cyber fraud case through which over Rs 77 lakh went lacking from the financial institution accounts of the physician, they mentioned.

“We have taken up this case along with another case involving an insurance fraud in which an Ayurvedic doctor was duped of Rs 52 lakh and have started investigations into both the cases simultaneously”, mentioned ADGP crime department Soumendra Priyadarshi.

While Dr Sanatan Mohanty of the town has complained that Rs 77,86,727 have been fraudulently transacted from his two financial institution accounts between February 9 to fifteen, the Ayurvedic physician has complained {that a} personal insurance coverage firm has duped him of Rs 55 lakh, which he had deposited with the corporate as premiums on two events method again in 2015, police mentioned.

The Ayurvedic physician was lured by a faux insurance coverage firm situated outdoors the nation to deposit the premiums promising that the cash can be doubled in 5 years.
