Ganja seized from saree packets in Odisha, three held

BHAWANIPATNA: The Odisha police seized 1.66 kgs of ganja stored in saree packets whereas beingtransported in a four-wheeler close to Kesinga in Kalahandi district on Sunday.

The police arrested three individuals, together with a lady.

The accused individuals – two males from Saran in Chapra district of Bihar and a lady from Balia of Uttar Pradesh, have been interrogated. They will likely be produced within the court docket on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a crew of the police from Kesinga in Kalahandi district intercepted a saree laden Bolero on NH 26 close to the police Station. During search, the police stumbled upon 220 pockets of ganja weighing round 166 kg stored inside saree packs.

Police sources mentioned the contraband was stored in saree packets and was being transported to Jharkhand.

“The contraband has been seized and the three persons have been arrested. They are being interrogated to track the chain and the source of procurement,” mentioned a police official.
