Incessant rains: Two extra kids die in wall collapse in Odisha

BARIPADA: Two extra kids have been killed when a portion of the wall collapsed following incessant rains for over per week taking the dying toll on account of wall collapse to 5 in Mayurbhanj district within the final three days.

Sources stated Ganesh Singh’s daughter Yasoda Singh (10) and son Jyotisankar Singh (6) of Raidihi village beneath Udala police limits died whereas his spouse Tulasi and youthful son fortunately survived.

The incident befell when the youngsters have been asleep on Monday night time. While Ganesh works in a non-public agency in Bhubaneswar, Tulasi stays with kids of their native village.

Police stated Tulasi and her youthful son had gone exterior to attend nature’s name when the weak portion of the mud wall collapsed. Hearing the sound, Tulasi went again to the room and located the 2 kids beneath the particles.

On Sunday, a 10-year-old woman Muni Behera, daughter of Sanjay Behera of Raghunathpur beneath Baripada municipality died after the wall of her home caved in.

On Saturday, Sweety Giri (12) and Niharika Giri (4), daughters of Anil Giri of Bhulagadia village beneath Bisoi police limits have been killed after the wall of their home collapsed. They have been sleeping with their mom and one other sibling who escaped narrowly.

Founder of Adivasi Dalit Mahasangha Rakesh Singh blamed the State authorities for the incidents. He alleged that the federal government failed to supply pucca homes to eligible beneficiaries resulting in such mishaps. Had these households been offered pucca homes beneath the federal government’s housing scheme, they’d have been alive, he added.
