Land rip-off: 39 unlawful settlements cancelled in Malkangiri

MALKANGIRI: Malkangiri administration has cancelled 39 unlawful land settlements which have been authorized by the then Kalimela tehsildar Alok Kumar Anugulia in 2020.  The transfer got here after disposal of the circumstances in reference to the violation of Orissa Prevention of Land Encroachment Act by Sub-Collector and appellate authority Akshya Kumar Khemudu.

Kalimela tehsildar Durga Prasad Dora advised TNIE that each one 39 settlements made underneath Orissa Prevention of Land Encroachment Act have been cancelled for procedural lapses after the appellate authority disposed of the circumstances. Of the 43 appeals made within the Sub-Collector’s courtroom, 39 have been disposed of and 4 are pending within the Orissa High Court.

An enormous rip-off involving unlawful settlement of presidency land in favour of contractors, businessmen and politicians had come to the fore in Kalimela block in 2021. A income inspector (RI) and a clerk of Kalimela tehsil workplace have been suspended by the then Malkangiri Collector Vijay Yedulla for his or her involvement within the irregularities. 

The rip-off surfaced after the Governor’s Secretariat, in a letter dated December 4 2020, requested the Principal Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management division to look into the matter following a grievance by former Kalimela sarpanch Mukund Nayak.     

Nayak had alleged that Anugulia allegedly in connivance with the RI and clerk had illegally registered huge tracts of presidency land in favour of 18 encroachers in alternate for financial favours. Subsequently, the Revenue division requested the Collector to look into the difficulty on December 17 in 2020 and submit a report.

The district administration then cancelled the 18 settlements. Initially, no motion was taken towards Anugulia. Under stress, the federal government later transferred Anugulia to Koraput and suspended him subsequently. Meanwhile, he has reportedly been reinstated.  

On the opposite hand, locals have sought a high-level probe into the rip-off and dismissal of Anugulia from service. They alleged that a number of senior officers are concerned within the irregularities and demanded motion towards the then Sub-Collector and ADM of Malkangiri.
