Murder bid on tehsildar: Second accused held

JAJPUR: Police on Friday arrested one other individual for allegedly attempting to run down Dasarathpur tehsildar Abinash Biswajit Sethy with a tractor. The accused was recognized as 20-year-old Ganesh Jena alias Chulubulia, the tractor driver from Ahiyas Puruna Sahi inside Mangalpur police limits. On Thursday, police had arrested sand smuggler and tractor proprietor Papi Sahoo on this connection.
Jajpur SP Rahul PR mentioned the second accused within the try to homicide case has been arrested and the tractor seized. He was produced in courtroom and remanded in judicial custody. Chulubulia had allegedly tried to run down the tehsildar with a sand-laden tractor close to Pallisahi sand ghat in Kasapa panchayat on Wednesday. Sources mentioned after receiving a tip-off about unlawful sand mining on Baitarani river mattress, Sethy together with different income officers had gone to Kasapa.
On seeing the tehsildar’s automobile, many of the smugglers fled with their sand-laden tractors. Sethy alighted from his automobile close to Pallisahi ghat and managed to cease the sand-laden tractor pushed by Chulubulia.
When Sethy requested Chulubulia to show the tractor in direction of the highway connecting the ghat, the latter tried to mow him down on the behest of Papi who was current on the spot. Sethy dodged the incoming tractor by leaping into a close-by pit. Following the incident, the tehsildar had lodged a grievance in opposition to Papi and Chulubulia with Mangalpur police.
