Odisha: Jail Staff Donate Blood To Ailing Prisoner, Win Hearts | OTV News

Malkangiri: In a unprecedented humanitarian gesture, two workers on the Malkangiri sub-jail saved the lifetime of an under-trial prisoner (UTP) by donating him blood.
The UTP, recognized as Durua Lacha, has been lodged within the jail following his arrest in a homicide case three years in the past. Recently, he fell sick and was shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Doctors on the hospital who carried out take a look at on him prescribed infusion of blood as he was anaemic. As none of Lacha’s relations volunteered to donate blood, Jail warders Rabindra Choudhury and Arun Panda, each working on the jail, got here ahead to donate blood with a purpose to save Lacha.

Another blood donor, Arun Panda stated, “Lacha is a human being first then a prisoner. As he needed blood, we initially tried to arrange donors outside and later donated the blood.”
While the dying of a under-trial prisoner on the jail final month had raised query on the administration, the humanitarian act of the 2 jail workers has drawn appreciation from all quarters.
On December 27, the UTP Danu Golori,  a resident of Khajuriguda of Swabhiman Anchal within the district, had died beneath mysterious circumstances throughout remedy on the district headquarters hospital.
