Pregnant girl made to stroll 3 km by police for not carrying helmet in Odisha

BARIPADA: In a surprising incident of police insensitivity in Odisha, a pregnant girl was left to stroll 3 km after she was discovered using a pillion with out a helmet to the hospital as her husband was taken to a police station to pay the advantageous. 

The incident which occurred in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday has left the state administration red-faced. 

The 27-year-old girl Gurubari was going to Udala Sub-divisional hospital for well being check-up together with her husband Bikram Biruli on a motorcycle. 

While Bikram was carrying a helmet, Gurubari was not. The couple was intercepted by officer accountable for Sarat Police Station Rina Baksal who allegedly pressured Bikram to go to the police station to pay the advantageous leaving Gurubari on the spot.

“I fear for my wife since she is nine- months pregnant. Despite requests to the OIC, she did not show any sympathy for my wife,” Bikram stated.

Later he gave a written grievance earlier than the SDPO of Udala, Kedarnath Sahu in regards to the matter. 

Based on the inquiry report, the SP suspended the woman officer, and Sanjay Pradhan, IIC of Kaptipada police was assigned the extra cost of Sarat Police Station.
