Rourkela: A 22-year-old youth drowned in Sankh River at Bhalupatra underneath Brahmanitarang police limits within the Steel City on Sunday. This is the seventh demise from drowning within the space this picnic season.
The deceased has been recognized as Chandan Mahakud. He together with 4 others was bathing within the river when the mishap occurred.
As per preliminary studies, the 5 youths went deep into the water whereas taking bathtub within the river. While 4 of them had been rescued instantly by the locals and hearth fighters, Mahakud was traced after a radical search.
He was rushed to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) the place the docs declared him as introduced useless.
Bayes Kujur, the Fire officer of Rourkela Fire Station stated, “When we reached the spot, four persons were already rescued by the locals and Mahakud was still missing. We launched a search operation and fished him out.”
The 4 others rescued from the river are acknowledged to be out of hazard and so they have already been discharged from the hospital after preliminary therapy.
It is pertinent to say right here that three rivers; Sankh, Koel and Brahmani circulation via Rourkela making it a preferred picnic spots for vacationers. However, a spurt in drowning deaths in latest months has triggered concern among the many locals. They demanded security of vacationers and expressed disappointment over lack of signage close to hazard zones.
