MahobaUttar Pradesh. An incident has shook Mahoba, where a newly married husband cheated his wife and married his girlfriend within just a month. This case not only tells the story of love and betrayal, but also highlights the flaws of women safety and legal process.
What happened?
Sonam Namdev, who lives in the Kotwali area of Mahoba, was married on 3 February 2025 to Rohit Namdev of Akona village of Rajnagar tehsil of Madhya Pradesh. After marriage, Sonam stayed with her husband for a few days, but on February 10, she returned to Mahoba with her father. After this, his in -laws did not contact him to call him back.
When Sonam tried to talk to her husband on March 14, she did not give any clear answer. But on March 17, the news of shock for Sonam came – Rohit posted pictures of her second marriage on her Facebook account!
“I am insulted, want justice!”
Sonam told in a tear voice, “I never thought that my husband would cheat me so soon. He married me, then quietly married another girl. Now he doesn’t pick up my phone. I feel dishonor and demand justice!”
Negligence of police and administration
Sonam lodged a complaint in the office of Mahoba Superintendent of Police, but no concrete action has been taken so far. Interestingly, the Madhya Pradesh Police is saying that the case should be registered in Uttar Pradesh, while the UP police says that the marriage was done in MP, so a case should be made there. Meanwhile, Sonam and her elderly mother are tired of circling the authorities.
Pink gang raised questions
Suman Chauhan, the national commander of Pink Gang, has reacted strongly to the matter. They said, “It is not just a fraud of marriage, but a serious violation of women’s rights. Yogi and Modi government talks about women’s safety, but such cases are increasing.”
What does the law say?
Under Indian law, it is illegal to do more than one marriage of a person (Section 494 IPC). If Rohit really married a second, then a big case can be made on him. But the question is whether the victim will get justice?
Growing up in society
This case is not limited to only one family, but is a matter of concern for the whole society. Even today many women are victims of such deception, but their voice is suppressed. Sonam’s fight is not only for herself, but for all women who are going through such a situation.
What will happen next?
Sonam is now demanding intervention at a high level. She wants the police to take action against Rohit and his family immediately. Will the administration be able to get him justice? Or will this matter be buried in files too?
