Bringing the issue of unpaid student scholarships to the forefront, AJSU Party MLA Nirmal Mahto staged a protest outside the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Friday. Mahto, the representative for Mandu and a prominent party official, is urging the government to expedite the payment of post-matric scholarships for students from tribal, Dalit, and backward communities. He confirmed that the AJSU student wing has been leading sustained efforts for scholarship disbursement, including presenting a recent memorandum to the Governor. The core of the protest lies in the fact that for two consecutive years, students from these disadvantaged groups have not received their scholarship funds, a situation Mahto described as a failure of government responsibility. Students from impoverished agricultural and laboring families are facing immense pressure, supplementing their education costs with part-time work, which inevitably disrupts their studies. Mahto also commented on the state’s proclaimed financial health, noting that the administration appears to be facing significant funding challenges, making it difficult to meet its commitments, including crucial educational support for its students.
