The Supreme Court is closely examining the recent floods impacting Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. Chief Justice B.R. Gavai has expressed significant worry concerning the heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in these areas. The court has specifically requested responses from the state governments regarding the situation. The CJI also pointed out the preliminary assessment suggesting the possibility of large-scale illegal logging. Visuals of wooden logs during Himachal floods have been highlighted. The court has deemed this a severe matter and instructed the states to submit their responses within three weeks, clarifying the situation is not entirely a natural calamity but potentially worsened by human activities.
