New Zealand’s preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup hit a snag with Adam Milne sidelined by injury. Kyle Jamieson has been elevated from reserves to fill the void in the squad.

Milne’s left hamstring gave way while delivering in the South Africa 20 league on Sunday, dashing his hopes of World Cup glory.

Head coach Rob Walter conveyed the team’s empathy. ‘Everyone’s heartbroken for Adam after his tireless efforts and strong showings with Eastern Cape Sunrisers. We pray for his quick return to form,’ he remarked.

Pivoting to Jamieson, Walter lauded his credentials. ‘A dedicated pro with elite skills and vast experience, Kyle fits perfectly. His presence in India, coupled with stellar tour form, strengthens our pace group immensely.’

The towering 31-year-old, engaged in India’s white-ball tour, has claimed 23 wickets across 24 T20Is.

Group D pits New Zealand against heavyweights South Africa and Afghanistan, plus UAE and Canada. The Kiwis launch their bid on February 8 versus Afghanistan in Chennai’s iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium, with Jamieson poised to make his mark.
