Pakistan has ended a 19-year drought by winning the T20I tri-series, defeating Sri Lanka in the final by a comfortable six-wicket margin. This historic victory is a significant moment for Pakistan cricket in the shortest format. The win was built on the back of a superb bowling performance, which restricted Sri Lanka to a mere 114 runs. Pakistan’s bowlers showcased exceptional discipline and skill, ensuring the opposition never found its footing.

Chasing a modest target, Pakistan’s openers, Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub (36 runs), laid a solid groundwork. Captain Babar Azam then played a captain’s knock, remaining undefeated on 37 and hitting the winning runs to secure the trophy. Despite Sri Lanka’s bowlers taking four wickets, they were unable to defend the low total. Pakistan reached the target in the 19th over, demonstrating a clinical approach to the run chase.

This triumph also marks a record-breaking year for Pakistan in T20 internationals. They have now secured 21 victories in 34 matches throughout 2025, a new national record for most T20I wins in a single calendar year, surpassing their previous record of 20 wins in 2021. This consistent performance underscores Pakistan’s enduring strength and strategic prowess in T20 cricket.
