  • CCTV cameras in Steel City parking lots to curb vehicle theft

    Thanks to Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), vehicle parking will be a lot safer in Steel City now. The civic body, JNAC, is all set to have surveillance cameras and barricades installed in parking lots across the city. 

    The move to put parking zones under surveillance aims to curb the menace of vehicle theft, which has been on the rise of late.  

    Significantly, the civic authority has put up a drop gate at one of the parking areas in Bistupur to assure owners that their vehicles are protected.

    City Manager, JNAC, Sandeep Kumar Singh, while explaining the need for such initiatives, said that the move to put up barricades and have CCTV cameras installed to provide enhanced security to the vehicles parked.

    “We have over a dozen parking lots in Bistupur, Sakchi, and Kadma area. We are going to put up barricades wherever necessary and also have CCTV cameras installed. The parking lots will have barricades. And owners will be allowed to park their vehicles through the drop gates only. This arrangement is going to provide more protection to the parked vehicles,” said the City Manager while talking to The Telegraph Online.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the First Blast on October 15 at 11 am. A 6-year deadline has been fixed for the construction of this tunnel. The cost of this tunnel was being around 8000 crores, which has now been reduced to around 4400 crores.

    Earlier there were plans to build two separate tunnels, but to reduce its growing budget, a single large tunnel would be built, in which vehicles would pass through two-way lanes. No escape tunnel will be created. Emergency Le Bai will be built in 750 meters on both sides. Manual emergency fire alarm push buttons will be placed in the tunnel for emergencies. Portable fireproofing devices will also be installed. Telephone will also be provided inside the tunnel so that in case of emergency, it can be contacted. Adequate lighting will also be provided inside the tunnel. CCTV cameras will be installed on the walls. The construction of this tunnel will strengthen the social, cultural and economic status of the region. People will also be able to visit Ladakh during the winter season, which will give a boost to the tourism industry. At this time, only 6 months in a year can travel between Srinagar and Leh, after the tunnel is built, it will be able to travel through the year.

    Right now it takes three hours to cross the Zojila pass, but with the construction of this tunnel, this distance will be covered in just 15 minutes. This will save both time and fuel. The construction of tunnel will increase employment opportunities for the local youth.

In case of emergency, telephones are installed every 150 meters and fire-fighting equipment are installed every 60 meters. CCTV cameras are installed at every 250 meters and air quality monitoring system for every kilometer to detect incidents. There are signs of emergency exit every 25 meters and a broadcasting system has been installed throughout the tunnel. Cameras are also installed in the tunnel every 60 meters.
