  • Former Coach Rahul Dravid On Rohit Sharma: ‘It Was An Honor To Work With Him’ | cricket news

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid hailed skipper Rohit Sharma and said it was his privilege to work with the 37-year-old. Rohit has earned laurels in white-ball cricket, and his impressive tally speaks volumes about his prowess in limited-over cricket. Rohit has garnered 14,846 runs, three double hundreds, 33 hundreds, and 87 fifties in ODIs and T20Is combined.

Apart from his mouth-watering tally, Rohit is a two-time ICC T20 World Cup (2007 and 2024) and ICC Champions Trophy winner. He also holds the record for most sixes in the shortest format.

Rohit’s stint as India’s T20I skipper was a memorable one. He overtook Dhoni as the most successful T20I captain with 49 wins in 62 matches. Dhoni had 41 victories from 72 games. Also to top it off, he led India to the ICC T20 World Cup title after a thrilling win in the final against South Africa at Barbados, ending India’s ICC trophy drought of 11 years.

Speaking to Star Sports, Dravid said Rohit Sharma was a “fantastic leader”. He added that people are “gravitated” toward him and the Men in Blue.

“I think it was a privilege to work with Rohit. In these two and a half years, I think he was a fantastic leader. People really gravitated towards him, the team. I think that makes a big difference. There were a lot of other senior players as well, whether it was Virat, Bumrah, or Ashwin in Test cricket that we played–just because a lot of Indian cricketers are big names, and they are superstars, and rightly so, and they. ‘re followed by so many people–sometimes people think that they have big egos and that they are very difficult to manage.” Dravid said.

The former India head coach added that people think that big players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others are very “humble” and don’t have any egos.

“But actually, I think it’s just the opposite. A lot of these superstars are actually very humble about their preparation. They are humble about their work ethic.

And that is why they are superstars. Look at Ashwin today; at this age, he’s willing to adapt, he’s willing to learn. So just one example. Of course, at times you have to manage them, manage their bodies, manage the workload, a lot of those things. But to be honest, it was not very difficult. I had a good group of people around me. And it was a privilege and a pleasure to work with some of these guys.

And I’m happy we were able to create a good environment. But a lot of the credit must go to the captain and the senior people who, to be honest, actually drive a team,” he added.

Dravid had a fine career as a coach for Team India, finishing with an ICC T20 World Cup trophy after a thrilling win over South Africa this year in June at Barbados. Before this, India ended as runners-up in the 50-over World Cup at home last year after a dominant 10-match win streak, losing to Australia. They also ended up as runners-up in the ICC World Test Championship to Australia last year. India also won the 50-over Asia Cup last year.

  • IND vs SL 3rd ODI: Sri Lanka Thrashes India By 110 Runs To Win ODI Series 2-0 For First Time In 27 Years | cricket news

IND vs SL: In a disappointing end to their three-match series against Sri Lanka, India fell short once again, losing the 3rd ODI by 110 runs. Sri Lanka, having posted a total of 248/7, successfully defended their score as India collapsed for just 138 runs in Colombo. Dunith Wellalage was the standout performer for Sri Lanka, delivering a match-winning five-wicket haul. His impressive bowling performance included the crucial wicket of Kuldeep Yadav, sealing India’s fate. Wellalage’s ability to dismantle India’s batting lineup was a key factor in Sri Lanka’s dominant display.

India’s batting woes were evident throughout the series, with only Rohit Sharma providing any significant resistance. Despite his efforts, the Indian batting order struggled against Sri Lankan bowlers, failing to chase targets of less than 250 runs in both matches they lost. This series defeat highlights major concerns for the Indian team as they approach the Champions Trophy.

Sri Lanka’s victory in the 3rd ODI means they win the series 2-0, showcasing their strength and preparation ahead of upcoming international fixtures. The Indian team, on the other hand, will need to address their batting frailties and enhance their strategies if they are to perform better in future tournaments.

As the series concludes, the Indian team faces intense scrutiny and pressure to regroup and refine their approach before the Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will look to build on this successful series and maintain their momentum in upcoming contests.

Phogat, who had been on a remarkable winning streak, defeating three opponents in a row to reach the final, was found to be 50.1 kg during the pre-final weigh-in, exceeding the 50 kg weight limit. Despite her team’s best efforts to reduce her weight, Phogat was unable to meet the required weight, leading to her disqualification.

The incident has raised questions about the decision to have Phogat compete in the 50 kg category, given her natural weight is around 56-57 kg. Phogat’s team, including her coaches, physiotherapist, and doctor, have come under scrutiny for their handling of the situation.

The disqualification has also sparked a political firestorm, with opposition leaders accusing the government of sabotaging Phogat’s chances. However, the government has clarified that the rules were clear and Phogat’s disqualification was not a result of any conspiracy.

  • DNA Exclusive: Will India Take A Cue From Israel’s Playbook To Kill Hafiz Saeed Like Ismail Haniyeh? ,

Israel has avenged the October 7 terrorist attack by killing Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in a missile strike in Iran. Haniyeh was the mastermind behind the recent attacks on Israel and had been living in Qatar before moving to Iran. His death is a significant blow to Hamas and a warning to other terrorist groups. This raises the question of whether India will follow suit and take out its own most wanted terrorist, Hafiz Saeed, who is responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

In today’s DNA, Zee News’ Anant Tyagi raised analyzed whether India take cue from Israel’s assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and take out its own most wanted terrorist, Hafiz Saeed, who is responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

This raises questions about India’s approach to dealing with its own most wanted terrorists, such as Hafiz Saeed. Will New Delhi take a cue from Israel’s playbook and take decisive action against those responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks

Israel has shown that it will stop at nothing to protect its citizens and take down its enemies, even if it means operating outside its borders. The country has taken out several high-profile targets in recent months, including Hamas commanders and Iranian military leaders.

The operation to kill Haniyeh was months in the making, with Israeli intelligence agencies tracking his movements and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The attack was carried out with precision and minimal collateral damage, a testament to Israel’s military prowess.

Haniyeh’s death is a significant achievement for Israel, but it is not the first time the country has taken down a high-profile target. In recent months, Israel has eliminated several top Hamas and Hezbollah commanders, sending a strong message to terrorist groups that they will not be tolerated.

  • Quad Sends Clear Message To China, Calls For Respecting Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity Of Nations |

TOKYO: In a loud and clear message to China, the Quad on Monday reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and resolved to work towards a region where no country dominates others and each state is free from “coercion” in all its forms. The grouping comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia, after a meeting of their foreign ministers, announced a plan to expand its ambitious Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) program to the Indian Ocean region that would facilitate monitoring the strategic waters.

The Quad also said that it was working for early operationalization of its South Asia program through India’s Information Fusion Center for the Indian Ocean Region. The Quad foreign ministerial meeting also called for upholding the free and open rules-based global order and respecting the principle of freedom, human rights, democratic values, sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

Without directly naming China, the ministers expressed serious concern over the situation in the East and South China Seas and reiterated the Quad’s strong opposition to any “unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion.” The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

“All countries have a role in contributing to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, while seeking a region in which no country dominates and no country is dominated, competition is managed responsibly, and each country is free from coercion in all its forms and can exercise its agency to determine its own future,” the ministers said in a joint statement.

It said the Quad continues to advance the development of a “trusted, secure and robust” telecommunication network, and announced a plan to roll out Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN) in island nation Palau. In his remarks at a press conference, Jaishankar said the Quad is not a “talk shop” but a platform that generates practical outcomes.

In their statement, the Quad foreign ministers also expressed “deepest concern over the war raging in Ukraine including its terrible and tragic humanitarian consequences.” “We reiterate the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in line with international law, consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity,” they said.

The Quad foreign ministers also referred to increasing Chinese maneuvers in the South China Sea, especially the “dangerous use” of coast guard and maritime militia vessels. “We continue to express our serious concern about the militarization of disputed features, and coercive and intimidating maneuvers in the South China Sea,” the joint statement said.

“We also express our serious concern about the dangerous use of coast guard and maritime militia vessels, the increasing use of various kinds of dangerous manoeuvres, and efforts to disrupt other countries’ offshore resource exploitation activities,” it said amid clashes between Chinese and Philippine vessels in the disputed South China Sea.

The ministers emphasized the importance of adherence to international law, particularly as reflected in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to address challenges to the global maritime rules-based order, including in the South and East China Seas. China claims sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea, where Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have overlapping claims.

The foreign ministers said the Quad is fully committed towards a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific. “We reaffirm the Quad’s steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, which is inclusive and resilient, and are united in our commitment to upholding the free and open rules-based international order, with its strong support for the principle of freedom, human rights, the rule of law, democratic values, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and peaceful settlement of disputes,” he said.

The ministers also “unequivocally” condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms including cross-border terrorism. “We strongly reiterate our condemnation of terrorist attacks, including the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot attacks and call for bringing the perpetrators of these attacks to justice without delay,” they added.

The Quad urged all countries to take immediate, sustained and irreversible action to prevent territory under their control from being used for terrorist purposes. “We reiterate the call for concerted action against all UN-listed terrorist groups including Al-Qa’ida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and their proxy groups,” the ministers said in the statement.

Quad is committed to international cooperation and working together with our international and regional partners in a comprehensive and sustained manner to strengthen their capacity to prevent, detect and respond to threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism, it said. On the situation in Gaza, the foreign ministers said the large-scale loss of civilian lives and the humanitarian crisis there is “unacceptable”. They also voiced concern over the “worsening” political, security and humanitarian situation in Myanmar, including in Rakhine state.

“We unequivocally condemn the terror attacks on October 7, 2023. The large-scale loss of civilian lives and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is unacceptable,” they said. “We affirm the imperative of securing the release of all hostages held by Hamas, and emphasize that the deal to release hostages would bring an immediate and prolonged ceasefire in Gaza,” they added.

  • Dhruv Jurel’s Instagram post goes viral with ‘Rohit’s Garden’ reference after India’s series win against Zimbabwe | Cricket News

India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel’s latest Instagram post featuring another hilarious ‘garden’ reference has gone viral on social media. The Indian team is celebrating a brilliant 4-1 series victory against Zimbabwe, a strong comeback after surprisingly losing the series opener. The youngsters have shown they are ready to uphold the team’s legacy in the absence of senior cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who announced their T20I retirements after the World Cup win. The new talents stepped up, displaying resilience and skill throughout the series.

After the decisive win against Zimbabwe, Jurel posted a fun picture from the airport on social media. The photo also featured Abhishek Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan. The post quickly garnered a lot of likes and comments, including a fun comment from senior player Suryakumar Yadav.

The ‘garden’ reference in Jurel’s post traces back to one of Rohit Sharma’s stump mic reactions during the Test series against England earlier this year. The incident occurred during the second Test in Visakhapatnam and went viral, sparking a meme fest online.

Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in India’s final match against Zimbabwe with a well-crafted half-century, while Mukesh Kumar delivered a disciplined bowling performance. Samson’s 58 runs helped India set a competitive total of 167/6, alongside Shivam Dube’s flashy 26 runs. The Indian bowlers then took charge, with Mukesh (4/22), Dube (2/25), and Washington Sundar (1/7) bundling out Zimbabwe for just 125 runs in the penultimate over of their innings. Samson and Riyan Parag added 65 runs for the fourth wicket, helping India recover from a middling Power Play where they scored 44/3.

India’s victory over Zimbabwe secured the series 4-1. As the team looks ahead, they are set to play Sri Lanka in a white-ball series beginning July 27. It will be interesting to see how many youngsters from the Zimbabwe series make it to the senior team for the upcoming matches.

The young players’ performance in the absence of seasoned veterans highlights the depth and potential within the Indian cricket team. Their ability to bounce back and dominate the series showcases the promising future of Indian cricket. Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and the continued emergence of new cricketing talents.

  • India’s Foreign Exchange Reserves Lightly Off All-Time Highs; Declines by USD 1.71 billion in latest week | Economy News

New Delhi: India’s foreign exchange reserves declined by USD 1.713 billion to USD 651.997 billion during the week that ended June 28, official data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed on Friday. The reserves are currently a tad lower than their all-time highs of USD 655.817 touched recently.

India’s foreign exchange reserves jumped to touch a new lifetime high during the week that ended June 7. The reserves have been rising on and off for a long time now. So far in 2024, they have risen about USD 30 billion, on a cumulative basis.

According to the latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s foreign currency assets (FCA), the biggest component of the forex reserves, declined by USD 1.252 billion to USD 572.881 billion. Gold reserves during the week declined by USD 427 million to USD 56.528 billion.

India’s foreign exchange reserves are now sufficient to cover around 11 months of projected imports, according to a recent RBI report. In the calendar year 2023, the RBI added about USD 58 billion to its foreign exchange kitty. In 2022, India’s forex kitty slumped by USD 71 billion cumulatively.

Forex reserves, or foreign exchange reserves (FX reserves), are assets that are held by a nation’s central bank or monetary authority. It is generally held in reserve currencies, usually the US Dollar and, to a lesser degree, the Euro, Japanese Yen, and Pound Sterling.

The country’s foreign exchange reserves last touched their all-time high in October 2021. Much of the decline after that can be attributed to a rise in the cost of imported goods in 2022. Also, the relative fall in forex reserves could be linked to the RBI’s intervention, from time to time, in the market to defend the uneven depreciation in the rupee against a surging US dollar.

Typically, the RBI, from time to time, intervenes in the market through liquidity management, including through the sale of dollars, to prevent a steep depreciation in the rupee.

  • Hardik Pandya Becomes World No. 1 T20I All-Rounder After Stellar T20 World Cup 2024 | Cricket News

Hardik Pandya achieved another significant milestone in his career by becoming the new top-ranked T20I all-rounder globally after India clinched the T20 World Cup. His ascent to the summit, the first by an Indian all-rounder, followed a standout performance in the tournament finale against South Africa. Hardik’s stellar contributions included 144 runs and 11 wickets throughout the event, culminating in a pivotal role in the final where he claimed 3/20.

His crucial dismissals of David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen propelled him up two spots in the rankings, displacing Wanindu Hasaranga to second place. This achievement marked a remarkable turnaround for Hardik, who had faced challenges earlier, including injury setbacks during the 2023 World Cup and a tough season with the Mumbai Indians.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup, Hardik’s fortunes reversed dramatically. His pivotal moments included a crucial wicket of Klaasen in the final, shifting momentum decisively in India’s favour. Facing a tense final over with 16 runs to defend, Hardik’s composure was evident as he dismissed Miller on the first ball, aided by a spectacular catch from Suryakumar Yadav.

Hardik’s performance throughout the tournament showcased his prowess with the bat, boasting a strike-rate over 150, and with the ball, making critical breakthroughs when it mattered most. His contributions were pivotal in India’s journey to victory, culminating in an emotional celebration on the field.

In addition to Hardik’s rise, there were notable movements in the T20I all-rounder rankings. Marcus Stoinis, Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan, and Liam Livingstone each advanced one position, while Mohammad Nabi saw a drop, falling out of the top five.

    Axar Patel In Top 13

Axar Patel, another standout Indian performer, also made significant strides in the rankings, now sitting at 12th place. His contributions, including a vital 47 runs in the final and key wickets in crucial matches, earned him recognition and a seven-place jump in the rankings.

Overall, India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup was underscored by Hardik Pandya’s exceptional all-round display, cementing his status as a leading figure in international T20 cricket.

  • India’s Forex Reserves Rise By $816 Million To Scale 653.7 Billion Mark | Economy News

New Delhi: India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $816 million to $653.71 billion in the week ended June 21, according to figures released by the RBI on Friday. The country’s forex reserves had contracted by $2.92 billion to $652.9 billion for the week ending on June 14 after rising steadily to a lifetime high in the preceding weeks. The latest figures show a resumption of the rising trend.

Prior to this, India’s foreign exchange reserves surged by $4.3 billion during the week ended June 7 to scale a life-time high of $655.8 billion. An increase in the foreign exchange reserves reflects strong fundamentals of the economy and gives the RBI more headroom to stabilise the rupee when it turns volatile.

A strong forex kitty enables the RBI to intervene in the spot and forward currency markets by releasing more dollars to prevent the rupee from going into a free fall. Conversely, a declining forex kitty leaves the RBI less space to intervene in the market to prop up the rupee.

“India’s external sector remains resilient and overall, we remain confident of meeting our external financing requirements comfortably,” Das said at a press conference after the monetary policy meeting earlier this month.

India’s current account deficit declined to $23.2 billion (0.7 per cent of GDP) during 2023-24 from $67 billion (2 per cent of GDP) during the previous year due to a lower merchandise trade deficit, the RBI said on Monday. Commerce Ministry data shows that India’s exports of goods shot up over 9 per cent in May paving the way for a stronger balance of payments position.
