“If the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not accept our demands by Monday, from Tuesday we will be forced to go for total cease-work at medical colleges & hospitals from Tuesday,” Halder said on Friday night.

Earlier, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra, a junior doctor of KPC Medical College & Hospital and who is one of the six doctors initiating the hunger strike at Esplanade since the evening of October 5, raised a question on how the Chief Minister could get swayed in Durga Puja. celebration when so many junior doctors are on hunger-strike. “Doesn’t she have any sense of humanity? “Could she not visit us just once and assure us of fulfilling our demands” Sayantani said.

  • RG Kar Rape-Murder: CBI Asks Mamata Govt Why Officials Facing Charges In Corruption Case Still In Key Posts |

Kolkata: The CBI has sent a letter to West Bengal Health Secretary NS Nigam asking him to furnish details about why officials, allegedly involved in the RG Kar Hospital corruption case, are still holding key positions at the medical establishment, a source said on Wednesday.

The Calcutta High Court on August 23 ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the central agency.

The CBI is also probing into the alleged rape and murder of an on-duty postgraduate trainee inside the hospital on August 9.

In the letter to Nigam, the agency has questioned why two doctors — Debasish Som and Sujata Ghosh — were still holding their respective positions.

Som is the former Head of the Forensic Department of RG Kar Hospital and is currently holding the position of a ‘Demonstrator’ at the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT), the hospital website said.

Sujata Ghosh is an Associate Professor of the Anaesthesiology department.

“These people were very very close to the arrested former principal of RG Kar hospital Sandip Ghosh. There is evidence of that,” a CBI officer told PTI.

The CBI on September 2 arrested Sandip Ghosh and three others in connection with the alleged financial misconduct at the hospital.

CBI officers have grilled Som several times as well as conducted search operations at his residence and office in connection with their probe.

RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s former principal Sandip Ghosh and suspended police officer Abhijit Mondal have been arrested in the financial scam at the hospital.

Incidentally, the junior doctors on hunger strike since October 5 are demanding, among others, the removal of Nigam from the post of health secretary.

  • Following positive talks with Bengal CM, docs to make final call after discussions

Kolkata: The meeting between the junior doctors who were agitating over the RG Kar Hospital issue and the state administration, led by the chief minister, ended on a positive note, according to people privy to the developments. The chief minister is said to have appealed to the junior doctors to resume work at the earliest. However, the doctors have said that they will take a final call only after discussions.

The state has agreed to address issues related to strengthening the health infrastructure and providing necessary infrastructure for doctors, people in the know have said. The junior doctors submitted a memorandum to chief minister Mamata Banerjee during their meeting which started at around 7 pm and continued for almost three hours. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar and Junior Health Minister (MoS) Chandrima Bhattacharya were present at Monday’s meeting.

However, the state government officials said that the junior doctors’ demand seeking the resignations of the Commissioner of Police, Director of Medical Education (DME) and Health Secretary, involved an administrative process. The chief minister allowed two stenographers who accompanied the junior doctors to be present at the meeting to record the minutes, heeding to the medics’ demand.

It may be recalled that the doctors’ stir over the rape and murder of an RG Kar Hospital medical student on August 9 entered the 38th day on Monday. On Monday morning, the Bengal government invited the junior doctors to the chief minister’s residence in Kalighat to end the impasse over the protest in front of State Health Department Headquarters ‘Swasthya Bhawan’. Two earlier efforts to convene the meeting had failed.

Manoj Pant has said in his letter that “…This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the chief minister and your delegates…In view of the Honorable Supreme Court order dated 9th September 2024 directing junior doctors to resume duties by 5 pm on the 10th September 2024, it is our bound duty, as lawabiding citizens, to follow and adhere to the apex court’s directive”.In response to the Chief Secretary’s mail, the West Bengal Junior Doctor’s Front emphasized on the meeting being videographed by separate videographers by both the parties. The doctors said that if that demand was not met, the minutes of the meeting with the full transcript be recorded and formulated by both the parties.”We have been fighting for justice. We are taking the fight forward. We will not take any decision at the meeting. If the meeting needs to be extended, we will do,” Kinjal Nandi, one of the junior doctors, said.

“We would like to reiterate that after the last proposed meeting two significant developments happened. First, the arrest of Sandip Ghosh in a case related to the rape and murder of Abhaya. Second, the arrest of Tala police station OC. These two new developments increase the significance of transparency of the meeting even more than before,” the doctors wrote.

  • West Bengal Politics Heat Up Over Sircar’s Letter To Mamata; BJP Says, ‘Dictatorial Attitude’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that a letter from TMC MP Jawhar Sircar to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee exposed that “TMC means Too Much Corruption.”

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted a video on microblogging site

“The letter by Jawhar Sircar, TMC MP, exposes dirt, corruption and dictatorial attitude within the TMC. TMC means ‘too much corruption,” he said in a shared video.

The letter of Jawahar Sircar after statements of Sukhendu Shekhar & Shantanu Sen reflects following

    1) TMC means Too Much Corruption Every institution has been corroded with corruption by Mamta Govt

Speaking up on corruption gets you into trouble!

    2) Mamata Govt priority… pic.twitter.com/vo1hoSbU0P

    — Shehzad Jai Hind (Modi’s family) (@Shehzad_Ind) September 8, 2024

Reacting to the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, he writes in a post that the Mamata government’s priority was not “Nyay for Beti”.

“Mamata Govt priority in RG Kar case was not Nyay for Beti. It was an institutional cover up. There is total no confidence against her as the movement is a people’s movement yet TMC leaders abused the protesters and threatened them,” the post read.

BJP national spokesperson raised three questions in the post and also asked why Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka are still silent and they are not visiting the victim’s parent.

Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that this is Sircar’s personal choice and decision and he has every right to take such a step.

“We have learned that Jawhar Sircar has made his decision. He was one of the finest bureaucrats in the country and a standout from West Bengal. This is his personal choice, decision, and letter, and he has every right to take such a step. We simply want to express that we, too, agree with the essence of his letter and the questions it raises.” Ghosh told reporters in Kolkata.

  • ‘More Important Than Most Politicians…’: Mamata ‘Congratulates’ Amit Shah On Son Jay’s ICC Role |

In a subtle dig targeted at Amit Shah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday shared a post on X congratulating the Union Home Minister for his son Jay Shah’s appointment as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The post has created a ripple on social media, not only as the Trinamool Congress chief addressed it to the Home Minister instead of directly congratulating Jay Shah for his appointment as ICC chief, but also because she took a subtle jibe by saying that Amit Shah’s son , despite not being a politician, has become more important than any politician.

“Congratulations, Union Home Minister!! Your son has not become a politician, but has become the ICC Chairman — a post much much more important than most politicians,” Chief Minister Banerjee wrote on elevated achievement indeed! Kudos!!” she added.

Political observers feel that from the language of the message, it is difficult to judge whether it was a congratulatory note or a subtle jibe at the Home Minister.

On August 27, Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the next Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) replacing Greg Barclay. Shah, who has been serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since October 2019, and as Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021, will assume the prestigious role on December 1.

Banerjee’s post is assuming importance as it came at a time when the West Bengal government led by Banerjee is drawing flak from all corners, including top BJP leaders, for the ghastly rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College. and Hospital in Kolkata earlier this month.

On Thursday itself, a lawyer practicing in the Supreme Court filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Banerjee over her ‘provocative’ remarks wherein she reportedly warned that other states might witness violence and unrest if attempts were made to create trouble in Bengal.

Addressing an event to mark the foundation day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the students’ wing of Trinamool Congress, on Wednesday, Banerjee said, “Modi babu, you are trying to create unrest in Bengal through your people. But remember, if you burn Bengal, Assam, Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will burn too.”

According to advocate Vineet Jindal, the complainant, the Trinamool chief’s remarks were inflammatory with the potential of inciting regional hatred and enmity, thus posing a threat to national harmony and public order as a whole.

  • Trinamool MLAs: Swearingin impasse of TMC MLAs: West Bengal speaker calls Jagdeep Dhankar, seeks his intervention

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay has sought the intervention of VicePresident Jagdeep Dhankhar to resolve the standoff over the oathtaking ceremony of the two newlyelected Trinamool MLAs.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday hit out at CM Mamata Banerjee, saying, “It is expected of public representatives to abide by the Constitution and not generate erroneous and slanderous impressions, obliquely adverse to the Governor, in public mind”. Bose’s statement comes a day after Banerjee said that women were scared to go to the Raj Bhawan and the oathtaking ceremony of the two Trinamool MLAs could not be held after they got elected almost a month back.

“The alibis floated in public domain are untenable,” Bose posted on X. Bose is now following the X Handle route like former Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, to give his statements.”I believe the Governor should think about the matter. I don’ t know why he is doing this. There is no reason for confrontation. This is not a place for confrontation. The Governor is refusing to understand, and he is not abiding by the law and Constitution. I was forced to write to President Droupadi Murmu , seeking her intervention to give him (Governor) direction to administer oath at the assembly or authorise someone else,” Bandyopadhyay said. He added that he had called up Dhankhar and requested him to look into the matter.

  • Mamata Banerjee hits out at Centre for lack of anticollision devices

Kolkata: Following the rail accident on Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at the Centre for the lack of anticollision devices in trains, the railway fare hike, lack of passenger amenities, negligence, lack of proper “care” for Railway employees and the absence of a Railway budget. Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw preferred to focus on passenger safety and restoration efforts.

Banerjee said, “The Railways has become parentless and has lost its beauty and glory,” adding “passenger amenities have been reduced while polls are rigged.”

“There is no Railway budget anymore. You can see Railways at the time of inaugurations. It has become a fashionstatement of sorts.” She claimed that during her regime as Railway Minister, anticollision devices were introduced and they were installed in the Konkan Railways.”

The Railway Board said in New Delhi today ‘Kavach’ (an automatic train protection system) has been planned and it will be implemented in Bengal. “You can call it Kavach or give it any other name. Let them create people’s Kavach first,” she said, adding “North Bengal has become an accident spot.”

  • ‘Ram-Vaam-Shyam Have Joined Hands’: Mamata Accuses BJP, Congress And Left of Secret Alliance |

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday targeted Bharatiya Janata Party over the Sandeshkhali violence and alleged that BJP is trying to disrupt peace in the area and has not taken any action against its leaders.Banerjee’s scathing comments came while she was addressing a Public gathering in Birbhum on Sunday.

Targeting the saffron party over the Sandeshkhali violence Bengal CM said that BJP along with ED and media is trying to disrupt peace in Sandeshkhali. “We always take action in case of any wrong. First the ED, then the BJP, and then the media. They are trying to disrupt peace there. [Sandeshkhali], If there are any allegations, we will take action, and whatever was taken forcibly will be returned,” sad Mamata Banerjee.

“I have asked the police to take suo motu cognizance. Our block president has been arrested. In Bhangar, Arabul Islam has also been arrested. But what action has the BJP taken against their leaders? Remember, the BJP is anti-Bengali, anti -women, anti-farmer, and anti-dalit,” she added.

West Bengal CM further alleged that the BJP is using central agencies like ED, CBI and the Election Commission for its own advantage. “They are using ED and CBI to threaten us. If the Election Commission is working on BJP’s orders, keep this in mind that we have the right to fight and voice our opinion,” said Banerjee.

“Earlier, I had to face the torture of Left and now I have to face the torture of BJP. Ram-Vaam-Shyam [BJP, Left, Congress] have joined hands. They had joined hands a long time back. This is the same CPI(M) that used to play with deaths,” she added.

Citing the ongoing farmers protest, Mamata Banerjee said, “We call the farmers ‘Annadatas’. They are the providers of food for us but look at the way they [BJP] are treating them.”

“BJP is creating chaos everywhere and provoking one community against the other. We call the farmers Annadatas. They are the provider of food for us but look at the way they [BJP] are treating them. Look at how Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana are burning. They are drilling nails so that the farmers can’t reach there. I sympathize with all our farmers,” she said.

Further, mentioning the Prevention of Money Laundering Acts, the West Bengal CM said that there is a proper way of work in these kind of cases which the investigative agencies are not following.

“There is another thing – PMLA. If you have any allegation against anyone, you conduct an investigation properly and give a charge sheet. Let law take its own course. But you cannot keep someone behind the bars. If you think by this you can win elections, you are wrong. Even Indira Gandhi did the same during the Emergency period but lost despite that,” CM Mamata said.
