  • Sitharaman to current Union Budget on Feb 1 as subsequent Parliament session begins Jan 29

    The Budget session of Parliament will start from January 29, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set to current the Union Budget on February 1. The session can be held in two elements — from January 29 to February 15 and March 8 to April 8.

    The fifth session of the seventeenth Lok Sabha can have 35 sittings — 11 within the first half and 24 within the second half.

    President Ram Nath Kovind will deal with each Houses of Parliament — the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha — at 11 am on January 29. Sitharaman will current the Union Budget at 11 am on February 1.

    Parliament will adjourn on February 15 to allow numerous Standing Committees to think about the Demands for Grants of Ministries/Departments and put together their studies, and reconvene on March 8.

  • Parliament Witnessed its highest productive session ever

    25 Bills passed in Lok Sabha achieving a productivity rate of 167%.

    The truncated monsoon session of the Parliament concluded yesterday, due to the Coronavirus pandemic ran for only 10 days.
    It was the most productive session ever, with the Lok Sabha achieving a productivity rate of 167%.
    The session ran from 14th September to 23rd September continuously, including weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

    A total of 25 bills were passed during this session, including some very significant bills. Let’s have a look at the 25 bills briefly.

  • Parliament’s Monsoon Session likely to be affected due to COVID-19

    The current Monsoon Session of the Parliament which started on 14 September was set to conclude on 1 October. However, the rising Covid Cases in the country leading to more and more MPs and Ministers testing positive for covid-19, the parliament session is likely to be reduced and is expected to conclude by mid on the coming week.

    Some Members of Parliament, including Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Prahlad Patel, tested positive for COVID-19 during the session.

    The Lok Sabha in the monsoon session has so far passed three Bills to replace agriculture sector related ordinances. Also, both the Houses have cleared a bill to replace an ordinance for cutting by 30 per cent the salaries of MPs to ramp up funds in the fight against the pandemic.

  • Monsoon session of Parliament will start from Monday, know the timing and guidelines

    Parliament Monsoon Session 2020: The Monsoon Session of Parliament starts on 14 September. The system has been changed for this first session of Parliament to be held in the Corona period. Both houses will have work for a period of four hours on the first day. On all other days, Rajya Sabha will function from 9 am to 1 pm and Lok Sabha from 3 to 7 pm, including weekends. Meanwhile, the menu of the canteen of Parliament has also been revealed. However, nothing will be made in the canteen this time. All food will be called from outside. It is reported that this time Crispy Kachori, Cheese Roll and Chicken Biryani will be served specially during the Parliament Monsoon Session. Apart from this, Veg Pettis, Paneer Pakora, Veg Kebab, Veg Sandwich, Paneer Tikka, Gulab Jamun, Rasgulla will also enhance the taste. The price of crispy kachori has been kept at just Rs 10. This menu has been prepared by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

    In the canteen of the Parliament, apart from the Parliaments, staff and media persons can also have food. However, in view of the corona epidemic, very few outsiders are allowed this time. Only current MPs will be allowed entry into the Central Hall. Even former MPs will not be able to enter here.

    Know the dishes and their prices found in the canteen

    This time a limited menu has been kept in the canteen of Parliament. This food will be packaged and served in disposable containers. Water, tea and coffee will also be served in paper cups. Breakfast included Paneer Roll (Rs 28), Crispy Kachori (Rs 10), Spring Roll (Rs 70), Samosa (Rs 10.90), Veg Pettis (Rs 25), Paneer Pakora (Rs 15.90), Veg Kebab (Rs 75) Will be Apart from this, Veg Sandwich (Rs 19.75) and Paneer Tikka (Rs 125) will also be served. For sweet lovers, Gulab Jamun (Rs. 12.40) will be an alternative to Rasgulla (Rs. 12.50).

    A 105-rupee vegetarian thali and a non-vegetarian thaari of 150 rupees will be served for MPs. Idli, vada, mini dosa, sambar and chutney with mini uttapam South Indian thali will also be available for Rs 110. Non-veg meals will include fried chicken / fish, sandwiches / croissants, boiled vegetables, butter and ketchup.

    Other options include Veg Biryani (Rs 75) with Raita and Chicken Biryani with Raita (Rs 100). Poha / upma with chutney is priced at Rs 55 and idli / vada with chutney will be available for Rs 50. The packing fee for the food in the cardboard boxes will be 3 to 5 rupees extra and each paper glass and paper plate will cost one rupee

  • Raise the issue of permission for procurement of 32 lakh metric tons of rice from Chhattisgarh in central pool, in the larger interest of farmers : Mr. Bhupesh Baghel

     Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said in his address to the meeting of Chhattisgarh MPs held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhavan that Member of Parliaments from Chhattisgarh should rise above the party politics and come together for farmers’ interest to raise the issue of Central Government’s permission for paddy procurement from farmers at minimum support price of Rs 2500 per quintal and procurement of 32 lakh metric tons of rice from Chhattisgarh for central pool. The meeting was attended by State’s Agriculture Minister Mr. Ravindra Choubey, Member of Lok Sabha Dr Jyotsana Mahant, Mr. Deepak Baij and Member of Rajya Sabha Mrs. Chhaya Verma, Chief Secretary Mr. RP Mandal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Gaurav Dwivedi , Principal Secretary Agriculture and Agricultural Production Commissioner Dr Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, Secretary of Food Department Dr Kamalpreet Singh.

    Chief Minister said in the meeting that in this meeting related to farmers of Chhattisgarh all the MPs of the state have been invited. Some MPs could not attend the meeting because of previous engagements. Mr. Baghel said that in 2014 Central Government led by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi had said that the rice procurement will not be done from the State Governments that are providing bonus to farmers on paddy procurement at support price, for central pool. But despite that rice was being procured for central pool from farmers by slackening the aforementioned provision for last two years. In year 2019-20, we have requested Prime Minister to slacken the provision this year as well and procure 32 lakh metric tons of rice from Chhattisgarh, because this year inflow of paddy in large quantity is expected. We have written letters in the context to Prime Minister and Central Food Minister, but they have responded with disagreement letter, stating that procurement of paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal would disturb the market.

    Chief Minister said in the meeting that procurement of paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal in Chhattisgarh has flourished the market. He requested all the MPs, farmers and businessmen to write letters to Prime Minister requesting slackening of the provision to procure 32 lakh metric tons of rice from Chhattisgarh for central pool.

    Chief Minister said in the meeting that in larger interest of farmers, State Government would procure paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal from farmers this year as well. This year, nearly  85 lakh metric tons of paddy procurement is expected. Chief Minister said that we have kept the promise of procuring paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal in year 2018-19. This year also we would procure paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal.

    Rise above Party Politics to Support Farmers’ Interest : Mr. Baghel appealed in the all-party meet of MPs today

    Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel appealed the MPs to rise above party politics to support interest of farmers of Chhattisgarh at the all-party meet held at Mantralaya today.  Representatives of various political parties responded positively to the request of Chief Minister.

    Chief Minister said in the meeting that if rice is not procured for central pool from Chhattisgarh, it would adversely affect farmers and economy of the state. He said that state government is providing Rs 2500 per quintal to farmers against paddy procurement from its own resources. Central Government has to only provide permission for the same. In the meeting, MLA of Chhattisgarh Janata Congress Mr. Dharamjeet Singh said that his party had praised state government’s decision to procure paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal from farmers, as it brought relief to farmers and improved their financial status. He showed his support towards farmers’ interest. Mr. Keshav Chandra of Bahujan Samaj Party said that he supports state government in bringing justice to the farmers. Mr. CR Bakshi of CPI and Mr. RDCP Rao of CPI (M) and Mr. Sonu Goswami of NCP also supported the stand of State Government on this topic.

    Direct Dialoge with Farmers and Farmer Unions

    Chief Minister Mr. Baghel had direct dialogue with farmer unions and farmers from various districts of the state regarding procurement of paddy at support price. Chief Minister gave them detailed information about government’s decisions and steps for paddy procurement at support price.

    Farmers welcomed the decisions of the government and said that this is first time ever that farmers have been called for meeting at Mantralaya. They thanked Chief Minister and told that paddy procurement at Rs 2500 per quintal has significantly improved their financial condition and has encouraged youngsters to take interest in farming. Chief Minister appealed farmer unions and farmers to request farmers, businessmen and various organizations related to agriculture to write letters to Prime Minister requesting procurement of rice from Chhattisgarh for central pool. Farmers and organizations welcomed this request of Chief Minister and agreed to support the cause.
