  • Control room to monitor, troubleshoot Covid-19 vaccination

    The state health department has set up a special control room with representation from various stakeholders, including doctors and development partners such as World Health Organisation (WHO), in order to monitor the vaccination programme for Covid-19 across Jharkhand, officials said on Tuesday.

    The state control room consists of five teams of around 50 doctors with each team assigned a specific task, said Dr Ajit Prasad, a member of the control room.

    The control room comprises separate teams for technical assistance, data management, communication and demand generation, cold chain and logistics management and capacity building. Each team has around 10 doctors, said Dr Prasad, the second lead in the technical assistance team.

    Dr L.R. Pathak, a member of the capacity building team, said all stakeholders will meet every week and plan the future course of action in the vaccination programme. The members of the control room will also identify various challenges in running the immunization programme in Jharkhand and troubleshoot, he added.

    The control room has been given the responsibility of monitoring the storage and transportation of the vaccine once it is made available to the state. “Since every team has been given different sets of responsibilities, it will become easier for them to focus on specific challenges and take up the matter during the weekly meetings,” said Dr Prasad.

    On Tuesday, the National Health Mission (NHM) answered frequently asked questions related to the Covid-19 vaccine in which it stated that a photo identity proof will be a must for any person to get Covid-19 vaccine shots. The document further stated that people would have to continue taking precautionary measures against the virus even after getting the shots.

    The vaccine, it said, will generate protective levels of antibodies in the body in two weeks after taking the second dose.

    As per figures with NHM, Jharkhand already has 1,666 electrical equipment for running vaccination programmes. These include ice lined refrigerators (ILRs) and deep freezers (DFs). ILRs, officials said, maintain a temperature between 2 degree Celsius and 8 degree Celsius, while DFs help maintain a temperature below 0 degrees for vaccine storage. Deep freezers are also used for maintaining the temperature during transportation of vaccines.

    The PM’s address will be telecast live across 23,000 villages of the country and at all the district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh, the official said. Rs 1,660 crore will be transferred to the accounts of 35 lakh farmers by the state government to compensate for crop loss, he added.

    Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will also attend the programme from Raisen. “The previous Congress-led state government did injustice with the farmers by not transferring relief funds into their accounts. The previous Congress government did not even deposit the premium of Fasal Bima Yojna. But BJP is determined to work for the welfare of farmers. We have already deposited the premium of Fasal Bima Yojna and are now going to transfer relief funds,” the chief minister said.

    The PM’s address comes in the backdrop of thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana protesting at Delhi borders since November 27, demanding that the three farm laws — The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020 — be scrapped.

    “In the past, we have witnessed encroachers returning to the vacated quarters soon after the completion of the drive, hence we have removed the doors and windows of the freed quarters to avoid their reoccupation by the unauthorized people,” said Karosia.

    Public Relation officer of Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway, PK Mishra maintained that repeated notices have been given by the railway administration to occupants of quarters to vacate the same. With the notices not eliciting any desired response, a forcible evacuation programme was carried out.

    The Special Olympics Jharkhand has issued an advisory to parents of intellectually impaired athletes to allow their wards to participate in outdoor activities, as the Covid-induced lockdown has prevented them from doing so.

    In view of the pandemic, the athletes have been sitting idle as the Special Olympics Jharkhand has not resumed its training programme. Outdoor activities including cycling, walking and running would keep the athletes tuned and better prepared when the training programme resumes, they said.

    “We have issued the advisory keeping in mind next year’s state and national competitions. We don’t want our athletes to be slack when we resume our training programmes. A bit of physical activity outside their homes will somewhat keep the boys and girls in shape before training.” said Special Olumpics Jharkhand assistant area director Satbir Singh Sahota.

    He said that most parents are unwilling to allow their children for outdoor activities amid the pandemic.

    “We have explained to them about the importance of outdoor activities and how it would help their children tune up before the training programmes. Some parents have started respecting our advisory,” Sahota added.

    Several special athletes from Jharkhand, mostly in Jamshedpur, have won medals at national and international competitions. This was possible largely due to training programmes of the Special Olympics Jharkhand which prepares the athletes for national selection camps.

    “Another reason for issuing the advisory was to continue the trend of medal-winning exploits of our athletes. We are glad that some of the parents have started allowing their wards to go out for physical activities. We are hopeful that competitions will resume sometime in April next year,” Sahota said.
