  • Twin blasts trigger panic in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, none injured

    JAMMU: Two explosions in fast succession sparked panic among the many individuals in a busy market in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night, officers stated.

    No one was injured, they stated. The first blast was heard round 8.15 pm close to a rubbish dump in Kotranka market, the officers stated.

    Police and different safety personnel rushed to the scene and cordoned off the world to analyze the reason for the blast.

    As the investigation was underway, one other blast occurred 10 minutes later, the officers stated, including the entire space has been cordoned off. The officers didn’t rule out terror angle within the incident.

    An Army soldier was killed on Wednesday in Pakistani firing alongside the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, a defence spokesperson stated. Sepoy Laxman, a resident of Jodhpur in Rajasthan, was the fourth soldier killed this 12 months in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops alongside the LoC.

    “The Pakistan Army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on the LoC in Sundarbani sector of Rajouri. Our troops responded strongly to the enemy fire,” the spokesperson stated.

    He stated Laxman was critically injured within the firing and later succumbed to his accidents.

    “Sepoy Laxman was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” he stated.

    Earlier, three Army personnel had been killed in Pakistani firing alongside the LoC in January this 12 months.

    Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has issued excessive, medium and low stage avalanche warning for the upper reaches of the avalanche inclined areas within the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir. A excessive hazard stage avalanche warning has been issued for the upper reaches of Poonch, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara Bandipora and Kulgam districts.

    Similarly, medium stage avalanche warning has been issued for the upper reaches of Rajouri, Udhampur, Ganderbal and Reasi districts.

    As such, folks residing in these areas have been suggested to take precautions and keep away from going to the susceptible areas and to take away snow from their rooftops to keep away from lack of lives.

  • Fresh avalanche warning issued for Jammu and Kashmir

    The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Tuesday issued contemporary medium to low-level avalanche warnings for greater reaches of avalanche-prone areas of the Union Territory.

    A medium stage avalanche warning has been issued for greater reaches of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara and Bandipora districts moreover Waltengu Nad, South and North portals of Jawahar Tunnel, Verinag, Kapran, Chowkibal-NC Pass, Gurez, Dawar and Neeru areas.

    People residing in these areas have been suggested to not enterprise out to keep away from threat to their lives.

  • 22.12% votes polled in 1st phase till 11 am

    Jammu and Kashmir recorded 22.12 per cent votes polled till 11 am across Jammu and Kashmir in the first phase of District Development Council (DDC) polls.

    Large numbers of people have come out to cast their votes as long queues were seen despite severe cold conditions in Kashmir Division and hilly areas of Division.

    As per the figures given by the office of State Election Commissioner, in Kashmir Division, Kupwara has recorded voting percentage of 13.492 per cent, Bandipora 17.874 per cent, Baramulla 12.196 per cent, Ganderbal 23.144 per cent, Srinagar 10.641 per cent, Budgam 28.472 per cent, Pulwama 3.514 per cent, Shopian 29.341 per cent, Kulgam 14.911 per cent and Anantnag 23.462 per cent till 11.00 am.

    Similarly, in Jammu division, Kishtwar has recorded voting percentage of 14.436 per cent, Doda 25.181 per cent, Ramban 33.392 per cent, Reasi 30.346 per cent, Udhampur 22.432 per cent, Kathua 24.262 per cent, Samba 36.403 per cent, Jammu 29.166 per cent, Rajouri 33.178 per cent and Poonch 32.113 per cent till 11:00 AM.
