  • Jaydev Unadkat to steer Saurashtra in Vijay Hazare Trophy

    Experienced left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat will lead the Saurashtra group within the Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting February 20.
    The Saurashtra Cricket Association introduced a 20-member squad by means of a media launch issued right here on Thursday.

    The selectors have picked the likes of Arpit Vasavada, Chirag Jani, Avi Barot, Prerak Mankad and Vishwarajsinh Jadeja as specialist batsmen together with younger wicket-keeper batsman Harvik Desai, who has additionally performed for India U-19 aspect.
    The bowling assault, to be led by Unadkat himself, comprise left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya and 30-year-old slow-left arm orthodox bowler Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, together with off-spinner Kamlesh Makwana.

  • IPL 2021 Auction Forces States To Prefer Mushtaq Ali Trophy Over Ranji Trophy

    India’s domestic season is yet to get underway as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a major hurdle towards the resumption of cricket activities. In order to start the domestic season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently asked the state associations’ on the structure of the shortened season as it plans to create six bio-secure hubs across the country between December and March.

    According to earlier PTI  report, the board has proposed 67 days for the Ranji Trophy (January 11-March 18), 22 days for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament (December 20 to January 10) while the Vijay Hazare Trophy, if held, can be conducted between January 11 to February 7 for a period of 28 days. However, it looks like the BCCI’s suggestion has not been accepted by some state associations, who in turn have asked for change of dates for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament.With multiple media reports suggesting that the IPL 2021 auction happening at the start of next year, PTI in its latest report has reported that top domestic sides like Karnataka, Saurashtra and Punjab have officially requested the BCCI to conduct the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament from January instead of proposed December 20 date as they would be short of preparations for a big-ticket event like this. Reportedly, Karnataka is the only state that wants all the tournaments (Ranji Trophy, Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy) this season.

  • PM Modi to flag off Ro-Pax ferry service in Gujarat today

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday flag off the Ropax ferry on Sunday between Surat and Saurashtra, remotely inaugurating a service that will reduce the distance between these two places from 317 km to just 60 km. With the inauguration of the Ropax ferry, the time taken to reach Saurashtra will be just four hours. This is going to benefit the people from Saurashtra who are working here in Surat, in a major way.

    Meanwhile, voting for third and final phase of the Bihar Assembly election 2020 was held on Saturday and the results will be announced on November 10.

    The Central government has granted permission to the candidates of Combined Defence Services (CDS) exams, to travel by special suburban services over the Mumbai Suburban train network from today.

    On political front, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Jagat Prakash Nadda has today called a meeting of party general secretaries. The issues that would be discussed in the meeting are not yet known.

  • PM Modi will inaugurate three projects in Gujarat today

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three projects in his home state of Gujarat today through video conference. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that Modi will launch the Kisan Suryodaya Yojana for the farmers of Gujarat, apart from the cardiovascular diseases of children belonging to Girnar ropeway in Junagadh district and UN Mehta Heart Institute and Research Center in Ahmedabad. Will inaugurate the hospital. On this occasion, he will also inaugurate the mobile application facility for tele-cardiology at Ahmedabad Sadar Hospital.
    Ropeway has recently been completed on Girnar hill near Junagadh in Saurashtra region. There is a temple of Maa Ambe atop the hill. People can complete the journey from ropeway to temple in eight minutes by covering a distance of about 2.13 kilometers.
    According to an official statement, 800 passengers per hour can be transported and transported through this ropeway. The project was conceived two decades ago but recently it has been completed at a cost of Rs 130 crore.

    The Kisan Suryodaya Yojana was recently launched by the Gujarat government to ensure day-time power supply for irrigation. Under this, there is a provision to supply power to farmers from five in the morning to nine in the night.

    The first phase of this scheme covers Dahod, Patan, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Chhota Udaipur, Kheda, Anand and Gir-Somna districts. The remaining districts will be included in the scheme by 2023 in a phased manner.
