    Highlights

Deforestation in Andaman Nicobar, plantation in MPPlantation will be done on 1405 hectares of land in three districtsMadhya Pradesh will get Rs 20 crore from CAMPA fund

State Bureau, Naiduniya, Bhopal: In lieu of denotifying the forest land of Andaman Nicobar Island, plantation will be done in three districts of Madhya Pradesh. Alternative plantation will be done on 1405 hectares of forest land of Dewas, Katni and Raisen districts of the state. The entire land in Andaman Nicobar Island is forest area, due to which as per rules, no other land is available for alternative plantation from CAMPA fund.

20 crore rupees will be received from CAMPA fund

The council for the development of the island has been constituted under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and construction work is to be done there as per the strategic strategy. For this reason, alternative plantation will be done in the degraded forest areas of these three districts of MP. For this, Rs 20 crore will be given by the island administration to the forest department of MP from the CAMPA fund.

Plantation in lieu of Andaman and Nicobar

Let us tell you that last month the Chief Secretary of Andaman Nicobar had written a letter to the Madhya Pradesh government saying that according to SFR (Indian Forest Survey), there is 36,465 square kilometer open degraded forest area in Madhya Pradesh and they want to get plantation work done in this open degraded forest area in lieu of the projects coming up in the Andaman Nicobar Islands.

For this, it was agreed to give the necessary funds to Madhya Pradesh for alternative plantation and to deposit 10 percent of the NPV (Net Present Value) amount with the National Authority of CAMPA.

Andaman doesn’t have enough forest land

It was informed by the Andaman Nicobar Administration through a demi-official letter dated 25.08.2020 that there is about 300 square kilometer of open forest area in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and this is not sufficient for alternate plantation for the upcoming projects in Andaman and Nicobar.

The Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar had sought permission from the Madhya Pradesh government through the Government of India to plant trees. The Madhya Pradesh government gave approval for this work.

Madhya Pradesh has rights over trees after plantation

Plantation work will be done using funds from CAMPA Fund (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority). The loss of 500 square kilometer forest area due to development work in Andaman Nicobar will be compensated in Madhya Pradesh. The Madhya Pradesh government will have full rights over the trees that grow after plantation.
