  • R Ashwin reveals heated moment between Virat Kohli and DC coach

Footage of Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting having an animated discussion in Abu Dhabi went viral on social media when Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore met for the 2nd time at IPL 2020.

Ricky Ponting, who was out on the field, during a strategic time-out, was seen arguing with Royal Challengers Bangalore players and support staff, including Virat Kohli and Simon Katich. The Delhi Capitals coach, it seems, was defending the team’s decision to not have R Ashwin on the field after the off-spinner picked up a minor injury.

R Ashwin, in his YoTube show on Wednesday, revealed there was a usual heated moment on the field as the two sides were battling for 2 crucial points at the Zayed Stadium. The off-spinner said Ricky Ponting was having a few words with the opposition camp, saying their decision to not let him field after his 4 overs was due to the injury concerns and nothing else.

Fans were left wondering as to what had transpired on the field when Ponting and Kohli were having a heated discussion in the middle but R Ashwin has put a full stop to the speculation.

“I had a back problem when I ran. It was a terrible pain. They took MRI scans and it was traced to a nerve pull on my back. I went off after bowling. The opposition thought, I bowled 4 overs and went in. They asked ‘How can that be done?’.

“Ricky, we all know, never backs off from a fight. And when RCB questioned, he said we aren’t like that. It was just at the heat of the moment,” R Ashwin said.

  • Australia vs India: Steve Waugh Disappointed Virat Kohli To Miss Three Tests

Virat Kohli has been given permission by the Indian cricket board to return home after the first Test in Adelaide, which begins on December 17.Australian great Steve Waugh said Tuesday he was surprised and disappointed that India captain Virat Kohli will miss three Tests to be at the birth of his first child, with his absence detracting from the blockbuster series. The 32-year-old and his Bollywood star wife Anushka Sharma are expecting a child in January, and Kohli has been given permission by the Indian cricket board to return home after the first Test in Adelaide, which begins on December 17. • Unlike Gautam Gambhir, Sehwag backs Virat Kohli to stay on as RCB captain

Former India star Virender Sehwag has backed Virat Kohli to remain captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore despite yet another IPL heartbreak, disagreeing with his ex-opening partner Gautam Gambhir’s views.

RCB lost the IPL ‘Eliminator’ against Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets on Friday to bow out of the 13th edition of the competition after a poor batting performance.

While it disappointed the RCB fans no end, two-time IPL winning skipper Gambhir led the calls for Kohli’s removal from captaincy. But, Sehwag did not agree with that viewpoint.

A captain is only as good as his team. When Virat Kohli captains India, he is able to deliver the results. He wins matches? ODIs, T20Is Tests. But when he captains RCB, his team is not able to perform,” Sehwag told ‘Cricbuzz’.

“It is very important for the captain to have a good team. So, I believe the management should not try and think of changing their captain and rather think of how they can improve this team.

“Who all should be added to the team to make sure their performance improves,” Sehwag added.

Kohli scored 466 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 121.35 and has often struggled to get going in the middle overs.

The defeat against SRH was RCB’s fifth on the trot after a strong start during which they had won seven out of 10 matches.
