The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the presence of Chinese military activity near Taiwan. As of Thursday morning, 12 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels were detected operating in the area. The MND noted that 10 of these aircraft crossed the median line and entered the island’s southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). Taiwan’s military responded by deploying aircraft, naval ships, and coastal missile systems to monitor the situation. President Lai Ching-te has previously discussed China’s use of military intimidation and influence warfare, which he views as part of a broader strategy to exert control over Taiwan and expand its power in the western Pacific. He also addressed internal political issues, particularly the actions of the opposition-controlled legislature, and emphasized the significance of Taiwan’s democracy and the role of its citizens.
