The Tamil Nadu government has once again taken its dispute with the Governor to the Supreme Court. The latest action challenges the Governor’s stance on the Kalaignar University Bill, focusing on his decision to reserve it for the President’s approval. This follows a pattern of tension between the government and the Governor.

The primary concern revolves around the passage and approval of legislation, especially the University Vice-Chancellor Bill. This bill aims to modify the appointment process of university vice-chancellors, transferring the authority from the Governor to the Chief Minister. The Governor has yet to approve the bill.

The controversy intensified when Governor R. N. Ravi formed a committee to appoint vice-chancellors, a move that the Tamil Nadu government contested. The Supreme Court previously sided with the state government on this matter. This current petition signifies another chapter in the ongoing legal dispute.

Despite the Supreme Court’s decision in the state government’s favor, the Governor has not acted on the bill, even though the court stipulated a deadline for a decision. This delay has caused frustration within the Stalin government, which has voiced concerns over the prolonged status of essential education bills.
