A video has surfaced showing a slipper being thrown at actor Vijay during a rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which was organized by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The event was the site of a deadly stampede, with a minimum of 36 fatalities. The video shows the moment the object was thrown at Vijay as he spoke to the crowd from a bus. Security guards acted swiftly, preventing the slipper from reaching the actor. The individual who threw the slipper was not apprehended.
Following the stampede, many attendees fainted and were taken to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the incident. According to V. Senthil Balaji, a former Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK leader, 31 people died and 58 were admitted to the hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident, sending his condolences to the families affected and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
