Geoffrey Hinton, the former Google executive and ‘Godfather of AI,’ has raised serious concerns regarding the future impact of artificial intelligence on human existence. He foresees a scenario where AI poses a threat to humanity. He believes that the current approaches of the ‘tech bros’ developing this technology are flawed. Hinton, a Nobel laureate in computer science, discussed with CNN the possibility, which he estimates at 10-20%, of AI causing human extinction. He also expressed skepticism about corporations’ efforts to maintain human dominance over AI, stating that such measures are likely to fail. Speaking at the Ai4 industry conference in Las Vegas, Hinton emphasized that AI will surpass human intelligence, giving it the power to undermine any current control strategies. The only historical precedent where a less intelligent entity controls a more intelligent one is the relationship between a mother and her child.
