Fraudsters are increasingly targeting consumers of streaming services with fake subscription offers. These criminals are advertising OTT subscriptions at heavily discounted rates, typically contacting potential victims through WhatsApp. The subscriptions, normally priced around Rs 1,500, are being offered for as little as Rs 500. When consumers fall for these offers, their bank accounts are often drained within minutes. Investigations show that the scams involve the use of malicious APK files and remote access apps distributed via links. Once installed, these apps gather sensitive personal and financial information. Law enforcement warns that searching for OTT subscriptions on Google can also be dangerous, as deceptive ads can lead to fraudulent interactions. In a separate incident, Delhi Police arrested a former advocate involved in a substantial Ponzi scheme.
