Perplexity AI is attempting to acquire Google Chrome, offering $34.5 billion. This offer is notably higher than the browser’s estimated market value of $18 billion. Google hasn’t shown any inclination to sell the popular browser. Perplexity AI’s proposition echoes its prior efforts, similar to its attempt to acquire TikTok’s US operations earlier this year. According to a Reuters review, Perplexity AI plans to maintain Chrome’s open-source code and invest $3 billion within two years. The company also promises to keep the default search engine unchanged. Other companies like OpenAI, Yahoo, and Apollo Global Management have also expressed interest in buying Google Chrome.
