ByteDance’s Seedream 4.0 is positioned as a competitor to Google DeepMind’s Nano Banana. Seedream 4.0, created by the Seed research team, enables both text-to-image creation and image editing, aiming to rival DeepMind’s image editor. Seedream 4.0’s strength lies in its ability to respond to complex prompts, retain detail, and facilitate detailed edits, such as removing objects or changing backgrounds. It features an advanced Mixture of Experts (MoE) framework, generating high-quality images up to 4K resolution, and creating 2K images in roughly 1.8 seconds. Nano Banana, while often providing aesthetically pleasing results, sometimes struggles with accuracy during iterative editing. The chat-style interface of Nano Banana is seen as user-friendly, whereas Seedream 4.0 offers an advantage by efficiently using multiple reference images. Concerns about privacy are pertinent, especially for AI tools originating from China being used in Western countries, whereas Nano Banana is widely accessible, including in India and via platforms like WhatsApp.
