About Garena Free Fire:
Garena’s Free Fire, is a free-to-play battle royale game available on both Android and iOS platforms. Released on December 8, 2017, it became the most downloaded mobile game globally in 2019, with over 1 billion downloads. It was also the highest-grossing mobile game in the United States in Q1 2021. By November 2019, total sales exceeded $1 billion. In 2021, Free Fire had over 150 million daily active users. Garena released Free Fire Max in September 2021, an enhanced version featuring better sound effects, textures, and lighting.
Popular Game Modes:
The game includes Battle Royale and Clash Squad modes. Battle Royale involves 50 players on an island, fighting for survival. Clash Squad is a team-based mode with two teams of four players competing in a best-of-five match. Free Fire offers various items, weapons, and vehicles, and features playable characters with unique abilities.
Gameplay:
Players control a character from a third-person view. They shoot and throw objects using the fire button. The character can jump, crawl, and lie down. The ‘Gloo Wall’ grenade provides cover.
Game modes:
Free Fire offers over 15 game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Clash Squad, Big Head, Explosive Jump, Cold Steel, Zombie Hunt, Rampage, and Pet Mania. Most modes are accessible only during special events.
Battle Royale Mode:
In Free Fire’s Battle Royale mode, up to 52 players land on an island without weapons. You must fight to be the last survivor by looting weapons and equipment from buildings. Playing Battle Royale mode in ranked mode will affect your ranking. Meanwhile, there are 6 maps: Bermuda, Bermuda Remastered, Kalahari, Purgatory, Alpine, and NeXTerra. The mode allows you to play solo, in duo, or in a team.
Clash Squad Mode:
Clash Squad is a 4-player vs. 4-player mode. Players buy weapons and items from an in-game shop during setup time and then battle the opposing team. You can play it in a best-of-7 format and it lasts between 4 and 7 rounds. Opponents win rounds when they kill all players on a team. Since 2022, the maps used in Clash Squad have been the same as in Battle Royale mode. Players can play it in ranked or casual mode.
Lone Wolf Mode:
Interestingly, Lone Wolf is a variation of the Clash Squad mode. You can play it 1-player vs 1-player “duo” format or a 2-player vs 2-player format with more complicated rules. In each round, both sides have the chance to choose their equipment for the next 2 rounds. You can play it in a best-of-5 format. When both teams have won 4 rounds each, a final round begins where both teams can choose any weapon. You automatically get basic items such as a vest and helmet from the start of the round. This mode takes place on its own map called Iron Dome.
Craftland Mode:
Craftland enables players to design their maps using an in-game creation tool. You can share and play maps with others. It also supports script editing for advanced customisation, giving developers more freedom to bring their ideas to life. Players can add buildings, in-game items, and decorations to the map until reaching the maximum space limit. Players have two cards to use as a basis for their creations.
