The GST Council has approved tax cuts on electronic goods, providing consumers with price relief. The 28% tax slab has been removed, with the tax structure now consisting of 5% and 18% rates. Televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, and dishwashers are expected to become more affordable. However, there’s no change in prices expected for smartphones and laptops.
The government has reduced the GST on televisions (LCD and LED), monitors, and projectors from 28% to 18%. This change is expected to result in price reductions, potentially saving consumers between 2,000 and 3,000 rupees.
Furthermore, air conditioners, dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines have been placed in the 18% tax slab. Consumers could save between 1,000 and 2,000 rupees on refrigerators and washing machines, and around 1,500 to 3,000 rupees on air conditioners.
Despite these changes, the prices of mobile phones and laptops are not expected to decrease. Currently, both items are taxed at 18%, and the government has not changed this rate. This means that the tax structure for smartphones and laptops will remain unchanged, leading to no price reduction. Consequently, the prices of these devices will remain the same.
