How Himalayan Bio-Resources Are Fueling India’s Growth
1 min readNew Delhi: Central Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday projected the Himalayan region as the future engine of India’s economy. Addressing a National Technology Day event at the CSIR-IHBT in Palampur, he said decades of underutilized bio-resources are now being harnessed through targeted scientific programs.
The minister detailed how the Aroma Mission has positioned Himachal Pradesh as the country’s top producer of wild marigold oil, delivering higher incomes to farmers and entrepreneurs. Similar successes in floriculture and medicinal plant cultivation are spreading across other Himalayan states.
Dr. Singh also highlighted the institute’s role in developing commercial technologies spanning agriculture, environmental science, fermentation and phytopharmaceuticals. He noted that tulips from IHBT featured in the Ayodhya consecration ceremony, symbolizing the bridge between science and cultural heritage.
He urged greater collaboration between research bodies and local communities so that Himalayan biodiversity continues to generate wealth, employment and sustainable development aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
