Innovation took center stage at the India-AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, coinciding with Expo 2026 buzz. The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) teamed up with the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) for an eye-opening exhibition centered on AI’s power to elevate food security and PDS efficiency.
Over 20 years of collaboration are now fueled by AI innovations, targeting greater transparency and quick-response capabilities in food distribution. The display illustrated how these tools can make systems more effective, ensuring aid delivery is seamless and reliable.
DFPD Secretary Sanjeev Chopra offered insights into the shift. ‘Traditionally, the food sector shunned high-tech like AI. Today, we’re surpassing transparency for true responsiveness, improving operations and services to beneficiaries,’ he told reporters, applauding the event’s innovations.
UN Resident Coordinator Stephen Pszenny lauded the summit’s execution. ‘Impressed by its grandeur as the new coordinator, I admire how innovations are showcased. The strong DFPD-WFP tie-up for better food distribution is commendable,’ he said.
WFP India Country Director Elizabeth Forbes hailed the partnership. ‘Two decades strong, this collaboration’s AI solutions are about real-life improvements and robust food security,’ she emphasized.
Reflecting India’s pledge to ethical AI, the summit prioritizes human-centric, inclusive, and sustainable applications. This exhibit underscores India’s ascent as a global AI hub, channeling technology into vital areas like food security for public welfare.
