On August 20, 2025, users in India reported login errors and service interruptions with ChatGPT, prompting inquiries about a potential outage. The problems began around 12 PM. Data revealed that OpenAI’s service experienced interruptions during the day. Most of the time, the number of users reporting issues was close to zero. There were two times when more people reported problems. The first was around 9:00 PM on 19th August, with about 80 reports, which was a small and brief problem. The second, which was the biggest issue of the day, was around 12:00 PM on 20th August, with nearly 483 reports. Although the number of reports decreased in the afternoon, they remained slightly above average, indicating persistent issues. OpenAI addressed the disruption on its official status page. The elevated error rate lasted for seven minutes. The issue affected numerous users attempting to access ChatGPT, causing temporary disruptions to the chatbot service. Fortunately, ChatGPT is now back online.
