Maruti Suzuki India Limited set a new benchmark in 2025 by delivering more than 5.85 lakh vehicles via rail, a robust 18% increase over 2024 figures. This accomplishment reinforces the company’s green logistics leadership.
From a mere 5.1% rail dependency in 2016, Maruti now relies on trains for 26% of dispatches, driving down emissions, oil consumption, and traffic loads. CEO Hisashi Takeuchi spotlighted this as the record-high rail volume, spotlighting innovations like the massive Manesar in-plant siding and historic Kashmir deliveries across the Chenab arch bridge.
Strategic goals include hitting 35% rail transport by FY 2030-31 to aid India’s 2070 net-zero ambitions. Leveraging a hub-and-spoke network since FY 2014-15, Maruti has rail-freighted 28 lakh units to over 600 cities from 22 points.
The fleet of 45+ flexi-deck rakes, with 260-vehicle capacity each, powered 53% of 2025 deliveries from Gujarat and Manesar sites. Under the ‘Circular Mobility’ banner, Maruti minimizes emissions across design, build, transport, and recycling phases.
Takeuchi emphasized continuous strides in lifecycle carbon reduction, establishing rail as the gold standard for secure, economical, and planet-friendly vehicle movement.
