A major milestone in India’s quest for tech independence was achieved as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the HCL-Foxconn OSAT semiconductor plant via video link from Uttar Pradesh’s YEIDA complex. The prime minister described the ₹3,700 crore-plus project as a robust enhancer of India’s stature in the worldwide chip industry.
Under the banner of India Chip Private Limited, the plant will manufacture vital display driver chips for consumer electronics, laptops, mobiles, and vehicles. PM Modi noted Uttar Pradesh’s pivotal role in shaping the national semiconductor framework.
‘Our drive for chip self-reliance is vital for electronics, automotive, and digital sectors,’ Modi affirmed. The plant’s capacity to handle 20,000 wafers each month will diminish import vulnerabilities and strengthen homegrown supply chains.
This venture will generate extensive employment for engineers and technicians, alongside stimulating ancillary businesses and innovation hubs. Positioned advantageously near Jewar Airport, it optimizes logistics for international trade.
PM Modi linked this achievement to the buzz from Delhi’s India AI Impact Summit, where India’s strategies earned global acclaim. He proclaimed the week a landmark in the nation’s tech odyssey, setting an energetic pace for 2026.
