The Indian Parliament’s passing of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, has triggered a wave of shutdowns among online gaming platforms. The bill seeks to eliminate harmful online money gaming while supporting e-sports and online social games. Crucially, the law prohibits advertising related to money games and restricts financial institutions from facilitating transactions. It furthermore seeks to outlaw online betting and gambling, including poker, rummy, and fantasy sports. Key platforms that have halted operations include WinZO, Mobile Premier League, Zupee, PokerBaazi, RummyCulture, Dream11, A23 Rummy, A23 Poker, and Probo. These changes are expected to have a substantial impact on India’s thriving $3.8 billion gaming sector, which has attracted significant global investment.
