Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared upbeat news in the Lok Sabha: 172 railway stations have been comprehensively redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat scheme, enhancing travel experiences across India.
This flagship program focuses on holistic improvements—better architecture, larger waiting areas, cleaner restrooms, and connectivity that bridges stations with urban landscapes on both sides. High-traffic stations now boast broader overbridges, elevators, escalators, superior parking, info systems, retail kiosks, and multi-modal links for seamless journeys.
Sustainability is core, with eco-conscious materials, upgraded tracks, and ambitions to evolve stations into urban city centers. From 1,337 targeted sites, these completions signal rapid advancement.
Safety remains paramount for bridges, with 8,626 repaired, fortified, or rebuilt by December 2025 since 2022. A structured inspection regime mandates twice-yearly reviews: pre-monsoon and in-depth post-monsoon, supplemented by chief engineer-directed frequent checks and special audits. Subways and underpasses follow suit, with anti-flooding initiatives. Procedures from the Bridge Manual, coupled with quality assurance and contract oversight, guarantee excellence.
